69c01f0d4f0e14e1f8, helcat reports on a Q&A with David Fury. Apparently,
"Fury pitched an ending to Joss for Angel, in which Angel wins the shanshu and then 'gives' it to Spike. This enrages Spike as not only doesn't he want it but he hates that Angel gives it to him even though he could now go to be with Buffy. Joss turned the idea down because he argued that making Spike human pretty much destroys any future for the character and he wanted to have the option to return to Spike in the future."
My Spuffy heart squee'd madly at this thought. Many who heard this were upset, thinking that Spike should earn his own darn shanshu, but I don't care so much about that. Fury said in another Q&A at http://www.spoilerslayer.com/archives/002821.php that "Spike is NOT evil -- he is a good guy. He is -- and this is a direct quote -- "morally superior" to Angel. (!)" so I don't think Fury was suggesting that Spike hadn't earned whatever the heck shanshu was.
Yay for the good ship Spuffy!

Ouch.
Gotta say, I'm a B/A shipper from way way back. I don't have anything against Spike - I suspect I'm just addicted to the old melodramatic stuff.

Oh, well. I love Angel, and I think his time on Buffy was good, but I think both of them moved on.
And what's the sighing for?

The "Spike is morally superior to Angel" bit.

Ah, well. That one's really open to debate. One thing it clear - Spike thinks he's morally superior, and Angel thinks he is too. So it probably depends on which you like better. Unless you prefer moral inferiority - some essays I've read say that "Angel gets boring because he's all good, and Spike is interesting because he's all grey." Which I think is ridiculous anyway.
As a Spike fan, I have no problem with Spike being a morally better man, er, vampire. But I also love the character of Angel, and think it's fine if he and Spike are equals.

Grounded, if Angel was morally superior, then EmmaRigby would not be in this one's arms...
She's a better judge of character than you or I.

Methinks JM's attraction is nothing to do with his superior morality ;)
