It has been my general experience on a variety of forums that the worst trolls share a large dose of craving for any type of attention. When you get dragged down into their arguments you are playing the game they want.
There will always be people we don't agree with and, like it or not, we don't get to decide what is the right way to think for the rest of the forum. The more you press the issue over trollish behavior the longer it will be an issue.
The forums generally work better if we comment on statements and ideas and not eachother. I am a big believer in ignoring personal attacks (or at least not trading them) to avoid unneeded forum drama. Perhaps, it is time to consider that strategy now.

Perhaps it is. They claim I'm someone called river and I'm not this person. I didn't even like river in firefly. They have a problem with me poking fun at their photographs. I did it for fun and a certain level of meanness, which I do confess too, but I kept it in Troll Country. In order for them to to be offended, they had to venture into Troll Country, therefore they made a choice.

Now, of course, I'm all for Shadow going away, but people, s/he's baiting us. S/he wants the attention, and apparently can't get it by posting anything thoughtful. So s/he just says assinine, insulting and generally trollish things. Because s/he wants the attention. Because s/he wants the attention. Because s/he--hell, no need to beat a dead horse, but the best medicine for a jackass like this is to ignore them. Like with PirateNews. No attention=they find some other forum to troll around in. But constantly fighting with this (obviously troubled) individual just plays into his/her hands.

I did--and you're right, those were some horrible things to say. But s/he's saying them for the attention. S/he wants to get a rise out of people because after all, bad attention is better than none at all. Fighting with this individual isn't going to work--that just plays into his/her game. Until Haken bans this person (which I'm not convinced he'll do) we can either fight with him/her or ignore him/her. For my sanity and my blood pressure, I'm going to try the latter.
