I don't have actors in mind specifically but I would just prefer to see more "no name" people instead of the "a list" celebs. I think the reason the show worked was cause no one on it was really huge yet.

I hear what you're saying; but, I would tend to disagree.

Not trying to draw any direct comparisons, but just as an example: The original Star Wars movies were cast with virtual unknowns. Yet, there were some notable actors (as opposed to 'celebrities') in key roles, adding some seasoning to an otherwise rookie cast (okay, so Ford had an auxilliary role in Lucas' "American Graffiti"). ...Specifically, Sir Alec Guinness (CBE) and Peter Cushing (appointed OBE in 1989), in the first installment and then Billy Dee Williams and cameos by Guinness in the next two.

Point is, if you find the right actors, they can provide the veggies in an otherwise strictly meat-and-potatoes movie.

As you may have noted, I have disagreed -- at least to some extent -- with some of the 'nevers' above. And it may seem sort of sneaky, but that was one of the goals of this discussion: To discover some folks you might not otherwise think of being in the sequel. I mean, somebody nominates a 'never', and you think, "No, I could actually see him/her playing a (fill in the blank), in a way that would benefit the movie dramatically and at the box office."

It's kinda like playing reverse psychology with everyone, myself included. And logically, it's somewhat easier to spot a 'never' who might in fact be usable, than it would be to nominate someone who should definitely be in the movie, just off the top of your head...

On the other hand, there are some real stinkers out there who're just gonna befoul any movie they're in, to wit:

J'Lo -- because they'd need to build bigger sets just to wedge her head into them. And she was so promising in "Out Of Sight", too...

-and-

Either of the Brothers Fiennes -- not necessarily because they couldn't pull off the look-and-feel, but because they are notorious for getting to 'know' the actresses on the set in the Biblical sense. ...And I will not have them ruining my Morena fantasy. (NB: So we can also add Jude Law and for the ladies, Angelina Jolie, for the same reason. Unless y'all fancy the idea of Angie playing succubus to Nathan's helpless bunny rabbit? That girl's a collector...)

Thoughtfully,

zoid

P.S.
Y'all thought I was gonna say they'd have to build bigger sets for J'Lo's butt, dintcha? IMO, the butt's not half as big as the Ego...

P.P.S.
Note to self: Never ask any of my nominees for their autograph (or a date)...

Unless Orlando Bloom is in there to be shot by Mal.... OH GOD, PLEASE LET MAL SHOOT ORLANDO BLOOM. That would make me so happy.

I think any actor/actress that 3/4 of the public would instantly attach a name to the face wouldn't work; Firefly has to rely on the story and characters, not the actors.

Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor

Dudley Moore and John Prescott

G W Bush and Condoleeza Rice

Regrettably, contemporary Steve Martin.

Tom Hanks without a doubt. (Ooh, and have Dan Brown do the script.)

(However, I would definitely trust a role, my ship and my life to Jeff Bridges. He would be right at home.)

Steve Carell of the Office and 40 Year Old Virgin and Julia Louis Dreyfuss. Both their voices drive me crazy after a little while.

I would like to see Dennis Leary as an old grouchy Browncoat and Anthony LaPaglia (Without a Trace) would be fantastic-he can do outrageous comedy (He was Daphne's drunk brother on several episodes of Frasier) and straight drama (He'is now an FBI officer on Without a Trace).

That leads me to two other actors I wouldn't want to see in the 'verse, EVER!
Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce

I don't know - O'Reilly and Coulter might be ok if they were fed to the Reevers.

Although I do agree to some sense that Firefly was built on no-name actors and recognizable actors would ruin it, the reason I have to disagree with is if the movie had say one big name more people may have come, meaning more money, and possibly a sequel. That's all I'm saying. As for people who should get the hell outta the Firefly world...hmmm...Chad Michael Murray (who counts as a girl) and Matt Damon (who also counts as a girl..guess I have no guys...darn). And I know this isn't what this thread is for, but I always had this vision of Morgan Freeman having some role in Book's past, perhaps the head of the Monestary, don't ask, I just think he would be great.

I'm a leaf on the wind, watch how I soar.
