Wow, I didn't think he was very well liked...
I've read about most of the Civil War generals and in my opinion Longstreet knew more about getting the job done than anyone else. And that is saying a lot. As for not being liked, he lost a lot of his popularity, in the south that is, when he joined the Republican party. Imagine a browncoat joining those purple bellies. No! Don't imagine that! I never said that!

It's sad, but there aren't too many living people* I have any great interest in meeting (other than my family & friends, of course).
Among the dead (just of the past century), I would have to include the following (in no particular order)...
1. Ronald Reagan
2. Winston Churchill
3. Al Capp
4. George Gershwin
5. Richard Nixon
6. Theodore Roosevelt
7. Jack Paar
8. C.S. Lewis
9. Garnet Wolseley
10. Orson Welles
11. Groucho Marx
(sorry, I had eleven off the top of my head, not ten)
*Two exceptions among the living whom I don't personally know: Jimmy Page & Sandy Koufax.
