firefly for childeren - too young

Going to give Firefly DVDs to kids in my family. Kids are from 8 to 13 years old. Are they too young?

13 I would say not really. If you've been to Junior High/Middle School, you know most of these things. Maybe a couple more years, though, for the torture. Remember the torture? 8 is probably too young. Might want to talk to parents about it either way.

I agree- maybe the 13-year old, depending on how mature he/she is. But in general, I think they'd still be too young to appreciate or understand the series, and you'd run the risk of ruining it for them.

I'd say Thirteen and up. It is really shocking that some people let there 5 year olds watch it. I love the verse but my kids can wait just a bit longer before the get enamored with it all!

Depends on the kid. I got hold of a copy of 'I, Claudius' at the age of seven. Wacky Roman fun !
My father was little freaked at having to explain disembowelling, though.
Considering the rubbish pumped out in the way of video games and tv ads, I think a well-written and well-paced series, that indicates that life might not always give you what you want, is a good thing.

I have 2 boys. They have pretty much watched what I watched since they were very small. They are smart, engaging young men.
If you feel your kids are old enough, then give it to them. Or ask their parents, parents know their kids.

It's probably best if you let the parents decide, though, since they should know, much better than anyone else could, if the child is ready for it.

the upper end of that agegroup i'd reckon would be fine, still, might want to ask their parents (and maybe gloss over some of the content, if you're not careful you could make it sound alot worse then it is 
)
