Oh JollyJinn that is a loaded question! It SHOULD be useful. But there are problems with some laws that have recently be created, as well as lack of funding at public schools.

I've been working on Russian, off and on, for about twenty years. I was interested in the Soviet space program as a kid (and still am), so I took Russian when I went to college since studying a language was required.

I would imagine that there would be a lot of Russian browncoats given Russia's history of a strong space program. One of the interesting things about the Firefly series is the idea that the U.S. and China are the two major cultural entities in the verse. I was surprised that Russia, given its admirable space program, was not the other along with the U.S., but then again China is gearing up its space program and things may well change a lot in the next 500 years. If it was Russia you could have helped us all with Russian slang.

Ah-ha-ha, God forbid! :) That is the reason I felt OK with China being a second power and not Russia.
You can't imagine how horrible Russian obsenities would have sounded from the lips of our BDHs. For some reason Russian cussin' sounds like the rudest cussin' of all, believe me. It would have turned me off the show, seriously. Yuck-yuck-yuck. :)
So "eto koorram na smekh" is as far as I'm prepared to go with the Russian slang in the 'Verse.

Well I think its right. Cuz these two cultures are now developing all over the world. Chineses u know are spreading so fast that maybe in 15 years they will inhabit most of Siberia

Yeah yeah absolutly agree.. Just imagine if Kaylee speaks some russian obscenities my ears would just burn in the hell
