I agree that the meek would have inherited it, but out guys can't go there.
It took more than a generation to get from Earth to the system in Firefly, our crew and their children would have died of old age before they finished the trip.
And that's ship time, off the ship, from the veiwpoint of either the system or Earth, the trip would be a hell of a lot longer.
They'd need a different ship too, I doubt Serenity could make the trip.
