I seriously think it won't do good. But then again I've always had a great hatred toward Superman.

Also the costume and special effects unsettles me. He looks too plastic. EVERYBODY looks too plastic judging from the trailer...well except for Spacy.

For me Spacey's Lex is too close a resemblance to the cameo he did as Doctor Evil in Austin Powers: Gold Member. I realize it's not fair to compare the two but that's the first thing that came to mind when I saw him.

Bringing Spacey in was the same reason they brought in Hackman, for the star power because the suits weren't certain an unknown actor could carry the film (which of course Reeves did, and blew the others away. Even the overpaid over rated Brando.) I see the same scenario here. Having said that, I will be giving it the benefit of the doubt.

But Lane bothers me. They should have gone for someone closer to Margot Kidder (who is the ultimate Lois Lane) and she has a kid? WTF? Set me straight here, isn't this supoosed to be AFTER the first film? When the hell did Lane have a kid? And an old one at that. All confused, will have to see the movie to understand.

I'm willing to lay my money on the table and say that it's going to be the biggest movie of the year. Probably not the best (Clerks II! Can't wait!), but everyone and their mother is going to see this movie, I guarantee it. They come no bigger than Superman (again, there are better characters, but Superman's a friggin icon, people).

And yes, I'm taking my mother to see it.

SUPERMAN RETURNS and CLERKS 2 are the two movies of the summer I'm looking forward too the most as well.

But as for SUPERMAN RETURNS, I'm gonna try my best to go in with no expectations so that I won't be dissapointed, but given Singer's track record, I'm kind of hoping that this could even top X2 as one of, if not THE, greatest comic book film ever.

I think Spacey will do just fine as far as acting is concerned. ...and I figured he got the part because of Spacey's break-out role in "Usual Suspects" which was directed by Bryan Singer.

I am concerned where Bryan will take it. I have to agree with CisA about X2. Although, given most comic book movies suck, it could have been MUCH MUCH worse. I only dream an X movie could come straight from the 80s pages.

Superman will be successful. Can't get a bigger draw for all ages than the Supes.

I very much agree that Michael Rosenbaum is an excellent Lex; he's really the best thing on that show. Good as Spacey is, I'm gonna miss him.
As for the guy they got to play Superman, I have to say I'm so far unimpressed. Not to say that Tom Welling is the best Superman ever, but he looks the part more than almost anyone else (Yes, I'm very sorry to the Christopher Reeves fans here; Welling has a stronger chin, he just does. Got that jutting jaw thing.) And this new guy looks like a generic dark-haired guy. It was like they lined up all the fairly tall, fairly well-built, dark haired struggling actors they could find and just pointed at one.
And I think Lois is too young. Esspecially if she has a kid. And what's that about, anyway?
The effects look very impressive, though. They can obviously do things with them that they couldn't for the older movies. I just hope that doesn't mean it's going to pull a Star Wars and the only thing worth watching will be the effects.
I'll not pass full judgement til I see it, which may or may not happen. My dad is the Superman fan, and he has misgivings about the movie as well. So if he sees it, I likely will too.
Will it fly? Probably.

No no no. X-Men was good, X2 was fantastic!
I felt that the first movie pretty much set up the universe - the plot wasn't that interesting (IMO) and the music was blah at best. It was the interaction between the characters that made the first movie worthy.
Of course, this is just my opinion as you have yours.
But for me, the only thing I didn't really like about X2 was its use of Cyclops - or misuse. I mean cmon, give the guy something to do! Having him take a backseat when Jean Grey was becoming integral to the story is just unforgivable... of course, his character was treated just as poorly in the third
Hopefully Bryan Singer has given James Marsden something worthwhile to do in Superman... but I doubt it

On the upside, it has Marlon Brando (er, sort of), the John Williams theme, and Singer's stated respect for Richard Donner's tone in Supe 1 and 2 (what Lester didn't up, that is), so I guess it's worth a shot.
