So the wife and I were watching HoG last night, as she has not seen it yet. And when it comes time for everyone to get ready and such (after Mal sleep with Mindi), my wife points out that Jayne is doing the hair of the whore he was shacking up with.

It was just too funny.

I thought that was really funny, too. It was actually the beginning of the evening when they all decide to stick around, but still funny as hell. It's the little nuances like that that set this show apart.

In some of the commentaries, it was mentioned that Adam thought his character should always be touching or smelling or tasting things, e.g.:

* steals a taste of Simon's birthday cake in 'Out of Gas'
* touches Yo-Saf-Bridge twice, once picking at her shawl as he says "then can I know her?" and a second time when Kaylee says "don't worry, he makes everybody cry", which was hilarious because you see Jayne's huge paw come from out of frame and gently pat her shoulder in a 'comforting' way
* shakes and then smells the package from his Mom in 'The Message'

I love when he pats her shoulder! :) Might have to watch OMR tonight...beats the O.C., which is currently clogging up my television thanks to a sister who didn't get the "we're boycotting Fox" memo...

Dont worry you have support here on the boycott. Made me stop watching the simpsons and malcolm because of what they did to Firefly. After listening to the commentaries. The scenes with Jayne are much more funny cause you know that tidbit about feeling things. Adds a lot to look for.

I LOVE Jayne! He's not a bad guy...he just doesn't have that verbal or moral filter most of us have. He really is sweet in his own way. I love the beginning of Bushwhacked when they're playing ball and he has Kaylee up on his shoulders...and when you see him drinking with Mal in the beginning of OMR (the whole beginning of OMR actually). Like I've said 1000x, I love the little things Joss includes to define the characters.

Jayne's apparent stupidity is often contradicted by his use of "big" words and his inherent sense for "violence and crime"...he is downright intelligent in Ariel. Simon sees it for the first time, as does the audience.
He reminds me of my friend Nicki from high school. A friend and I went to New Orleans for Spring Break and we sent Nicki a postcard that said Greetings from Louisana...when we got back she said, "Thanks for the postcard, but I thought you went to New Orleans?"...this girl carried a 3.7 g.p.a., but sometimes she just didn't get.
I wish Firefly had been around then, the "You're mouth is moving, you might want to see to that" would have come in handy :)

I haven given up The Simpsons and That 70s Show for Firefly...and I would do it again in a second!

I won't watch F*x at all since the Firefly incident. Thankfully, our local UPN station has taken up both the Simpsons and That 70's Show in syndication, so I don't have to miss them entirely. (I just stay a season or two behind... :)

I caught Jayne doing that girl's hair and just hoped that Mal or someone in the crew had seen him. The crap he would've gotten for that would have been never-ending.

What I thought was interesting was that Jayne stuck with one girl. I'd have predicted he'd have..umm..gone with the smorgasboard, but he didn't. Kinda threw me a bit, but that's ok.
