Stephen Hawking says humans must go into space.

HONG KONG - The survival of the human race depends on its ability to find new homes elsewhere in the universe because there's an increasing risk that a disaster will destroy the Earth, world-renowned scientist Stephen Hawking said Tuesday.

"We won't find anywhere as nice as Earth unless we go to another star system," added Hawking.

"It is important for the human race to spread out into space for the survival of the species," Hawking said. "Life on Earth is at the ever-increasing risk of being wiped out by a disaster, such as sudden global warming, nuclear war, a genetically engineered virus or other dangers we have not yet thought of."

We Browncoats have been saying it all along...

Why did you start this thread twice?

Other people can occasionally be useful, especially as minions. I want lots of minions.

Whoa, I've been looking for this site for like 6 years. Saw it once a long time ago, never could find it again. Thanks!

By the by, as cool as it would be to live in a FireFly Verse', let's not forget that from the time they began their great exodus to the time when the system was like it is on the show took hundreds of years. Y'know what life's like until then? Cramped conditions with thousands of other people on a space ship, like some 1700 poor Chinese town square EVERY DAY of your life.

Thanks, but I'll just wait here for the meteor.

Not likely. Way too expensive to lift/feed/provide air for so much meat. Much more likely to be a colony ship with LOTS of already fertilized eggs and an ex-utero way to incubate them. Lower tech way would be to have an all female crew (at least the generation before planet-fall would need to be mostly/all female), impregnate them (repeatedly) with widely varied, already fertilized eggs (instant gene-pool diversity) upon arrival at destination.
If it's a generational ship (very likely unless we make some huge leaps in engine technology), the crew will have to have children en-route(recommend pre-fertilized eggs) and train them with the help of the ships libraries in how to operate/maintain the ship.

Do you know what your sin is Captain?
Aww Hell. I'm a big fan of all seven.

Steven Hawking is about the coolest guy ever to be almost completely immoble. Has anyone seen the movie "A Brief History of Time"? Both facinating and heart wrenching.

No, I am not insane, I am crazy. Thank you for asking.
