I didn't know the Poseidon Adventure was on. I would have watched it.

I saw the original and nothing could be better than Gene Hackman and Shelly Winters swimming thru the stairwell and then she dies. Cheesey, but good cheesey.

You might enjoy Water's Edge. Just watched it this weekend. All the acting except Nathan's is painful to watch also. It includes a Baldwin (brother Daniel of the acting Baldwin brothers-plays the bad mayor) but not Adam Baldwin (doesn't have any brothers that act or otherwise) IMHO the movie would have been much better with Nathan and Adam playing off each other.

Plot is simple. Writer Robert(Nathan)and his wife leave NYC and go to his late father's cabin in a small town. Wife is suicidal-they just lost their daughter and are broke. Nathan rescues a supposed damsel in distress and she draws them into blackmail and murder.

Watch for the shirtless wood chopping scene and the scene on the pier.

You mean the new Poseidon? SOOO bad.

Richard Dreyfuss is gay in it for no reason. Nothing against sexual orientation or anything, but if he were not gay in the film, the movie would have been no diffrent. I hate it when charecter aspects are changed just for political correctness.

Did you notice that Adam got top billing in this version of "The Poseidon Adventure"? Above Rutger Hauer, Steve Guttenberg, or Bryan Brown. (Oddly, on IMDB, Hauer is given top billing, but Adam was first in the actual opening credits.)

They made a few changes in this version, the biggest one being that the capsize was due to a terrorist attack rather than a rogue wave.

Something I've always wondered about, even in the original version: could a ship actually remain afloat for that length of time when capsized? It seems like a cruise ship, in particular, would almost instantly fill with water up to the waterline due to breakage of all those cabin windows and sliding doors. I can't imagine that the air trapped in the "top" of the hull would displace enough to keep her afloat. Especially since there was a big frickin' hole in the hull to let the air out!

Then again, disregarding the hole, wouldn't the trapped air become highly pressurized? So when they did cut or blast an opening, they'd all be blown out through it.

I think the phrase "suspension of disbelief" comes into play here.

I missed it ...drat and I knew it was on I just got distracted and now when I tivo it, it doesn't come up..does anyone know when it'll re-run?

Oh and Chris you've watched what that was worse?? "cause I have to reccomend Laser Mission. It's Brandon Lee's real first film and it is damn near the worst thing on this planet. Also, there's a hot blond in it and it's painfully obvious Brandon can't remember his lines due to her distraction.

Really this cuts to the heart of an ongoing debate for any minority-type group that's seeking inclusion and acceptance... but this thread is about the freakin' Poseidon Adventure, so let's not go there.

Also, note that Adam Baldwin is not "a Baldwin" in the usual sense--he's not actually related to Alec and siblings.

In the new movie they closed the watertight doors which effectivly seals much of the interior part of the ship from water coming in. With almost all of the ship submerged it does seem to stretch reality a little though. I wouldn't think that the air trapped in the ship would become pressurized enough to cause damage like that. It wouldn't be any different than being on a submarine. And the giant hole in the keel after it capsizes is above the waterline so no water would get in. And that only leaves air to fill the space.

You definitely need suspension of disbelief to watch this movie, but that is true in any disaster movie ever made. Impossible occurances happening due to improbable circumstances. Look at The Day After Tomorrow.
