What Software do you use to capture the clips that you use to make fan vids?

I use a program called FairUse Wizard 2. It costs about $25, and you can find it easily with Google. It's maybe not the most powerful program out there, but it's inexpensive, easy to use, and gets the job done. I like it.

I've got Windows Movie Maker, which seems to be a pretty common vidding program. Pros: it takes only a couple of minutes to download clips from discs, it makes editing a piece of cake, and makes available more super-shiny video effects than you can shake a stick at. Also doesn't take very long to save a finished vid to your hard drive. Cons: It's prone to freezing, so you'll want to save your vid often; and if you do a lot of reviewing in your last few clips, playback is extremely hesitant. So if you're using WMM you'll want to either resist the temptation to review until you're done, or perhaps save the movie as a work-in-progress, watch it through once and figure out what changes you want to make.

If you're very painstaking and you want the perfect vid, as so many of us do, WMM can be a great program for vidders who can put up with those little quirks and find ways around them.

How do you get the clips off of the disc in movie maker?

Ehh, 'fraid I don't know that part...a friend of mine burned all the files onto blank discs and sent 'em my way.

I got the files onto my computer with a DVD Decrypter, but moviemaker said it couldn't read them. I'm almost ready to give up.
I have another con for moviemaker, though; it isn't widescreen. I'm lucky enough to have secondary access to Vegas, so if I ever DO get the files to work I can use that. Maybe someday.
*sigh*
Sorry I couldn't help with the actual question. Maybe someone can help me.
