OK, I'll give you that. I'm just saying that not everyone who works for the Alliance are evil people. Most of them are probably regular office workers doing regular office work and living normal everyday lives. It would be the higher ups in power who would be corrupt.
I direct your attention to the 1985 sci-fi classic BRAZIL. I re-watched BRAZIL a while back, and I kinda realized that this movie could easily be set in the FIREFLY verse and be about some pencil pusher works for the Alliance, but dreams of escaping and flying away. Maybe if FIREFLY lasted 5 to 7 years, maybe there would have introduced a Sam Lowry type character who joins the crew who used to work for the Alliance, but one day just decided that he had enough of it and wanted to see the Rim for some excitement. Sort of like Simon and River, but in his case he would WANT to go out to the Rim and not HAVE to. Or maybe it would be just an hour long version of BRAZIL set in the FIREFLY verse. Different names, maybe different outcome, but similar in themes.

"There's only one "Return" ok, and it ain't "of the King", it's "of the Jedi."
"Maybe we should start calling your friend 'Padme' because he loves 'Mannequin Skywalker' so much, Right? (imitating robot) Danger...danger...my name is Anakin...my shitty acting is ruining saga."
Excerpt of internet teaser for CLERKS 2.

Hey! Here's a wacky idea-- try substituting the word "Joel" for the word "Mike"!
Just a crazy thought.

True but that particular person knew exactly what the Alliance did and did nothing about it (unless she was the one helping the group that got River out).
If you work for an evil empire, you are part of it and become tainted and at risk automatically. Surely as a Clerks fan, you know this? Those construction workers knew what they were letting themselves in for.

Yes but the Alliance isn't some evil empire, it is, as Joss says, largely benevolent.

And that was a great scene in Clerks, indeed it was one of the better scenes in movies in general.

She might not have known what she was doing, librarians don't read all of the books in the library and they don't actually need to read any of them, they just need to understand the numbers on the side.
She might not have been cleared to read the records she was keeping.
If she did know then I agree, she deserved worse than she got.
