..WASH'S MOVE

To Mal, "Yeah I think maybe I can sleep now that, with the Shepherd's help, I consciously realize the irrational fear I've got that River's gonna slit all our throats while we sleep."

Wash turns to Simon, "she's not gonna slit all our throats while we sleep right? I mean, she would have by now if she was gonna. Right?" Then Wash looks at the red pill. "What's in this anyway? Is there a blue one that'll keep me awake?"

Wash listens for Simon's answer, then shrugs and heads for the quarters on the ship reserved for himself and his wife, Zoe Warren. He still looks like hell, and is movin' mighty slow, holding his head.

..END MOVE

OOC: And I'm goin' to bed too. 'Night folks.

Kaylee's Move:

Lying down on the floor, tinkering with the engine. Even more greasy than before. Mumbling to self, talking to Serenity..."There now...that's better...no more hiccups, please, we've got a long haul ahead of us...that's my good girl..."

End Move

accepts picture from River and smiles

Thanks mei-mei, I think both of them would like it.

looks at picture and widens eyes at Book's hair, shakes head with a grin and goes back to tending Wash. Looks over at Book

Thanks Shepard for helping me with Wash.

Still works on Wash as Mal come in and seems to be speaking to River, finally notices Mal as Wash tries to get off the bed and almost slips to the floor, grabs Wash and helps him to a sitting postion as Mal suggests that Wash grab a nap

Yes ... certainly, he need as much rest as he can get.

In answer to Book's question

Autopilot ... I suppose it is like cruise control on the personal transports.

Turns adruptly back to Wash as he talks about River slitting throats

Please! She hasen't hurt anyone ... well not seriously. As it turned out, River was right about Jayne, if you remember. She has been getting better with the newer treatments. Small incriments, but still progress.

Yes, the stimulant is blue. Funny you should know that.

Shakes his head as Mal and Wash exit then walks over to River and gives her a hug

Mei-mei, what are we going to do with ourselves. I had hoped for better for you ... but still ... even as it may look a little strange, it seems this is the righ ... no perfect place to be. At least for the time being it feels like home.

gives a big brotherly grin to River

Well, as least as long as we are here together.

{You know, the one playing River should be the Guide!! Why? River knows what is happening in the future, but garbles the predictions with metaphor and the like.

Conversly, the Guide could give River something to say via an email or private Instant Message (MSN or AOL).}

To Simon.

Ge-ge, together.

Hugs him back, then breaks away and says

He doesn't look good in red.

Leaves.

..WASH'S MOVE

Wash has taken the red pill and is sleeping fitfully in his bunk. He's having very bad dreams.

..END MOVE

OOC:

Point One
River cannot see into the future in the literal sense. She can extrapolate past and present events to predict the future from a pseudo scientific basis but she has no true clairovoyant powers. It's probable that her apparent telepathic powers function the same way. That she doesn't so much read a person's mind as she extrapolates what she knows and from that pieces together what the person is probably thinking at that moment in time. River's brain functions at an unnaturally accelerated rate. Things in the brain that are used to filter thought and separate thought from action and emotion have been removed. Her brain works more like a machine than a person, but she also has the feelings of a little girl, clinging for dear life to the madness that a greater knowledge represents.

I wrote a piece about this a short while back for Whedonesque Wiki.

Point Two
Whoever the guide is, they shouldn't be any one character, because they will represent any characters that are not presently already 'puppeted.' Then they have to be willing to give a character up to newcomers as they arrive to play the game. The main nine characters should always have some player representing them, separately from the guide, but that's just my opinion.

I didn't mean to derail this thread so any discussion about how River's brain functions should move over here:

Book makes his way up the back stairway, through the hallway by the engine room, and down the main corridor of the ship. Seeing a blinking red light from the bridge far ahead, he moves quickly through the mess hall and past the crew quarters.

Book using the intercom

"Cap'n we have an incoming transmission"
