I think I know this one. Put on a flat cookie sheet, season with carb cleaner. Bake at 550 degrees for 5 hours. Serves 6 (9 if it's a 401 Buick Nailhead)

To releave the metal of stress on the molecular level to prevent "hard spots"(caused by un-even heating while engine was running, and also to clean off the dirt and grease) from causing cracks in the block during high load after it's reassembled.
Am I right? I didn't spend much time on this subject in Engine Rebuilding, I was in the nurse's office getting my fingers bandaged after my lab partner dropped a cast iron Chevy small block head on my hand.
