I obvoiusly am in the minority here, but I thought it was the best X-men film yet. Yes it was a little rushed and it diverged even further from the comics than the first two. But it was the most fun (Clichés and all). I look at the changes as, same characters, different multiverse. The comics, the Cartoon, the movies, none of them have the same exact story.

I was not surprised she died in the movie. I read the original comics years ago. At the end of it she dies on the dark side of the moon. The Phoenix force was too powerfull for her to control. As mentioned in an earlier post it came from outer space and was not a split personality. Later it turned out that the Pheonix force used her body & dna as a template and the Dark Phoenix was really a clone, while the real Jean was in a cacoon at the bottom of the lake. The real Jean eventualy woke up and had full control of her powers plus a boost from being in contact with the phoenix. So to me the movie wasn't any cheesier than the comic was.

He's dead Yeaaaaa! I've hated him since the 80's. But still we didnt see a body I don't believe he's dead.

Although I would have liked to see more of her in this one, I liked how things went for her. Especialy after seeing Magneto move the chess piece at the end. Seems like the cure wears off and they get their powers back.

This sets the stage for her to get the superstrength, invulnerability, and flight powers. In the comics she started out much like the first movie only able to absorb the powers and the psykie of those who touched her. She accidentily absorbed all of the powers and the mind from Carol Danvers (Ms Marvel) leaving Carol's body in a coma and Rogue with a split personality that would occasionaly come out when she was knocked unconcious.

If there is a fourth movie. This sets the stage for the above mentioned accident, when her powers return unexpectedly. Hopefully also Gambit would be in the next one to finish the split with Bobby.

Thats all I have time for now.

There was a Ghost Rider trailer? Dang! Not at the mocie I saw. We got Superman, which looks really good particularly with Kevin Spacey as Lex, and a trailer for something called Snakes on a Plane. Can someone tell me why, oh why, do we need a movie about snakes on a plane?

Superman's probably the next summer blockbuster I'll see...unless I get to MI III before then, for the bad guy...and because it's a movie that probably deserves a big screen. Of course, there's Cars too...I'll catch anything by PIXAR, they haven't disappointed yet.

I enjoyed the hell out of this movie! I'm no purest , so I can see how some of the die hards might have issues, but anyone who's a fan of Joss's work should LOVE this stuff. Talk about MAJOR events taking place! WOW. I'm still trying to take it all in. What a gutsy script.

And what a great ending!

Did I mentioned I liked this movie ?

Well, saw the movie today, and have mixed feelings about it having read the comics for years. (Plus the two trolls sitting at the back talking, shouting and laughing through three quarters of the movie til they got booted out didn't help)

Maybe it's just me but I felt that Ratner concentrated on quantity, not quality. Too many subplots detracting from the main story and too many new characters that were either horribly underused or just background scenery. In some cases these characters were either fighting on the wrong side, had changed sex or were just amalgamations of two or three characters.

Hopefully if there is another X-men, and not a spin off, Singer will be back in control and it'll be back to the standard of 1 & 2.

In its defence, my friend who's never read an X-man comic in her life, loved it and have to agree, if you don't look too hard, then it's a pretty good way to spend a couple of hours.

actually I'm pretty sure Joss didn't have anything to do with this piece of garbage. And that's what I think this movie is... garbage.

Well let me back up for a sec, if your not just a huge fan of the comics series then you'll probably like this movie.

But being a fan of the xmen universe, I hated the movie. The movie ripped off some of the great series in the comic book, the Phoenix saga and The Cure series. Both were great and could have made a great movie by themselves. Instead they mashed em together and sprinkled 'cameos' from several mutants in the xmen universe.

To me this movie feels like they were just trying to jam as many characters and subplots into the movie as they could just to get the comic fans to come and watch their favorite lesser character appear for 30 seconds on the screen. It's clear to me that the makers of this movie had no knowledge or love of the comic. That was ok in the previous movies because at least the director was trying to tell a story. This it seems they just tried to make this an action movie with a little bit of story on the side.

bottom line if you like action movies but know little to nothing of the Xmen universe go watch this movie. If your a big fan of the Comics save your money and maybe rent this when it hits the local movie store. Maybe the "special edition" dvd will fix the gaping plot holes and character development in the movie.

stick - Don't know how you can be 'wrong' when it's your opinion. You come to the movie from one perspective, and I come from another. My reference to Joss wasn't that he had anything to DO w/ this movie, only that those who are fans of his work will notice certain specifics...

namely, the killing off of long time, main characters. I'm told that the XMen 'verse doesn't adhere to one main timeline. But, to me, the killing off of 3 main characters , all in one movie, is something that fans of Buffy/Angel and Firefly(Serenity) have come to expect. Compare that to Lord of the Rings, for example, where all 4 Hobbits return home after their adventure is over.

With there being so much in the XMen 'verse, it would be near impossible to please everyone. But as a story, I think it worked. Sure, there might have been too much of this, and not enough of t'other, but over all, I found it to be one of the better sequels i've seen in some time.

Even as I watched it, I thought Magneto's trick w/ the bridge was way over the top. He easily could have used any ship , even an air craft carrier ( not that one would BE in SF in the 1st place..ha ha ha ) but it did kinda look cool. There were several erroneous comments made by critics I heard about the movie, one concerning the GG Bridge. One said that it was to be used as a 'weapon', of some sort. Another said that Mystique didn't show up much in the movie, but I thought she was in a fair amount. Even at the end, her 'turn coat' ways could be left up to debate. Did she 'know' the mutants had broken camp, and that it was basically a ruse, or did Magneto figure she'd turn on him, and played along , to set up the bait/switch ? Good stuff!

I loved this one... it had ambition reaching to the skies, and while this inevitably meant the focus was very broadly distributed over a wide array of characters, with not a massive amount of screentime for anybody (a number of story arcs in the making over the course of the trilogy come to some rather ignominious ends, and certain characters are dispatched surprisingly early), I feel it truly portrays an ENTIRE otherworld, from the lowest echelons, to the administration, to the opposition, to the X Men themselves.

There's a greater degree of consistency in this than the last two, where there were huge gulfs betwixt the astonishingly powerful and the rest of the mutants that could not be overcome; here you feel you have more of a measure of just what capabilities certain characters have, and how some of these gulfs can be overcome with appropriate guile.

More realism in terms of character emerges, with Anna Paquin's Rogue (the "in" to the X Men's world since part one, remember) showing the frustrations of the character better than ever, and I personally loved the ambiguity of her storyline's conclusion. Shawn Ashmore's Iceman gets props for finally growing a pair, yet still coming across as a noble young man (they DO exist), and Kitty Pryde (despite looking and sounding like a pre-teen at times) gives a spirited performance. Kelsey Grammar's Beast positively GLOWS.

I saw this movie last weekend, and I'm still struggling to decide whether or not I liked it. I mean the action sequences were cool, but I can't help but agree with some of my fellow browncoats about the script being way underdeveloped. It's "The Last Stand" and it supposedly the last movie (though come on, we know it's probably not), it should have been epic. Some moments almost seemed to achieve this, but those moments are spoiled by the rest of the film.
There are a few other problems that I had with the film, but they're a bit spoilery so...

Okay, first of all I have issues with the way the writers killed off Cyclops. Killing him off in the first act was just a disservice to his character. I feel like thay made Cyclops less likeable in the films in favor of focusing more on Wolverine. Secondly certain characters, namely Angel, served absolutly no purpose in the film. I recognize that he was one of the original X-men but as it stands, Angel was just there to look pretty. They could have done the whole mutant cure thing with out him (and everyone who reads Joss's series knows that his DID do it without him). Lastly, I have some qualms about the Rogue-Bobby-Kitty love triangle. Like why was it neccesary? Just because there was a love triangle in the first two films, doesn't mean that its needed for the third. Also, I know tha the films follow a different continuity than the comics, but they had Colossus and Kitty Pride in the same film, and they didn't even try to show any sparkage. What the hell is wrong with them?!

Maybe the script wasn't as underdeveloped as we all think, perhaps this film's potential was ruined in the editing room, in which case I pray for and uncut DVD resease. And if a fourth movie does get made, I hope that Fox will actually wait for Bryan Singer to direct this time.

I wonder what Joss's opinion of the film is, since it's based off of his Astonishing X-men series. Anyone else wondering if he has some of the same grips as we do?
