I work at McDonalds...enought said.
Hopefully quitting in about a month now that I got a car. *crosses fingers, toes, eyes, other fingers, arms, etc.*
It's obscene the stories I could tell. But after 7.5 hours of dealing with people in the Arizona sun...it's enough to make you want to stab yourself in the eye with a blunt object.

Stupid is everywhere. It consumes all available resources, it multiplies and exspands into new territories in turn consuming all resources there and continuing to exspand and multiply.
Stupid is a VIRUS!

I am not surprised by your student's essay, just monumentally depressed ...
I'm a lawyer in the UK and continually get looked at funny by other lawyers when I use words over 2 syllables which they apparently do not understand - and these are supposed to be educated people - and what's worse? I'm supposed to feel guilty for using elitist and discriminatory vocabulary... Grr!

Ohhh! I so do! Where can I find one of those?
Will it also tell me how not to want to destroy pople who think it's insensitive of me to refer to history/politics and other things they know not of because "I've had a good education" and, presumably, they haven't. Never mind that my so called education consists of reading things, paying attention and interacting with the world ...
See! It makes me pretty mad! Will there be refreshments and calming drugs provided?

After the group is suitably plastered, the debates begin, and two-syllable words are mis-pronounced, if used at all.
One comes away with a new appreciation of the truly moronic, as WE can rise above it simply by not being drunk; they live it their whole lives, poor sods.

I just don't think I can do it - I don't think it will help - It is only the restraining effect of sobriety which prevents my inner pedant from revealing its repugnant form to the light of day - give me a few drinks and I'll be maliciously and egregiously correcting people’s pronunciation left, right and centre!!

that's called conditioning.... unless the subject, (in this case a child), gains access to influences other than the lazy, inept and moronic tendencies of its core learning experience, it (the child) is doomed to a life of hopeless stupidy.... it must break the cycle of repetive dumbassatude before it can become a useful, functioning member of society.... but then again, there are large numbers of humans who thrive in this atmosphere....
