Quote:I was rather expecting to get flamed on my first entrance here, as well. IIRC, my first post here was a rather long diatribe about how great the show was and how wrong FOX was for killing it, etc. I think I even mis-spelled a few of the actors' names :) Looking back, would have been flame-bait anywhere else but here.

I've been places where that's happened to me. Not from Browncoats, mind you, but in other, to remain nameless, fandoms.
I'm just glad to see so many happy, friendly folks as we got here. Makes me proud to be a browncoat.
{EDIT} D'oh! My brain went AWOL. I forgot to say, how much I appreciate FollowMal's handin' out of the coats. Made me feel all happy.
Instead, I got a few warm welcomes and my boorishly long thread was quietly pushed off to the archives where it belonged :)
Anyways, just a long way to add my hurrahs to the great community here. And of course a grand kudos to FollowMal and what has become a hall-mark of FFF.net. Never will get tired of seeing the welcoming committee popping by to let the new 'Coats know they've finally come home.

Just wanted to say my own thanks to FollowMal. I've not been here long but you may have noticed I've made myself quite at home (moving my junk into all the spare rooms and tying up the phone for hours) and that's all thanks to the shiny way she and everyone else greeted me here.
I had never posted on any online board before and was very nervous! The shiny browncoat let me feel that I didn't have to earn my right to have opinions but was already accepted even by the long-term members.
Plus, the thought of that lovely virtual coat inspired me to go out and get a real one that everyone could see! Your good influence is therefore spreading to everyone I now meet!

RadarRese!!
You're home! I've missed you terribly and *hugs*!
Pull up a chair in the galley, and we'll spoil you rotten.
*Seats RadarRese and begins to yank stuff out of stores to spread on the table for a lovely welcome home feast. There's strawberries and I hope cream, (I put in a request
) from FloralBunny and Mudder's Milk and fresh bao and some hot wife's soup.
*Sits down with a hot cup of coffee to visit*

Well, I ain't got a coat, and that's okay! But I sure wouldn't mind some of those strawberries over there... :D
I'm not a big message board person in general. But this place.. dunno - it's just different :)

You can't be without a 'coat, SoulQuake, that just won't do!
*Stands back and checks out size details, runs to storeroom and comes back with a browncoat that fits perfectly*
*hands said browncoat to SoulQuake*
There you are, check it out.. hope it fits. Now you got your gear---- recruits can't be doin' without their gear.
*Shoves bowl of strawberries over to SoulQuake*
O 'course we're different, SoulQuake,
our ship is the shiniest. And we're weird, if ChristheCynic were here he'd say we were weird.
But we're a merry and determined bunch and we're glad you're with us.
Coffee?

Well look at that - it is a perfect fit! Thank you!
Hey, weird is good! And thank you, I'm glad I'm here :)
Yes to that coffee!

I swear I see Kaylee's face everytime I see FM's username in a thread...
She helps make it home 'round here...

I'm gonna just say I'm so complimented.

But come to think of it, I do own a shop where we do mechanical work. Hmmm.....

I remember when I first got my 'coat from FollowMal, I had been slipping around here for a few months(feeling dreadfully uncomfortable) and slipped through the cracks. Then I found her handing out coats on a thread a while back, and asked for mine, she handed me the most awesome, coat I've ever owned! after that I have been perfectly content on this site.

Okay, we've heard from a lot of Browncoats who found a warm greeting and shiny coat when they clambered aboard this leaky old boat. And we've seen how much FollowMal has done to keep that spirit flowing.
But what of FollowMal herself? Tell us, FM, what was your greeting like when you first came here? We can be pretty sure that you didn't receive a virtual coat, or a flagon of mudders' milk, or even a wilted strawberry. What was it, then, that made you feel at home here?

I don't disagree on any particular point.
