The Daleks call the Doctor the 'Oncoming Storm'. And there's something in the eyes - he's the lone survivor of a race that set themselves up to police time and space and made a of it. An atonement thing, perhaps?

I admit to being deeply conflicted myself - and somehow Christopher Eccleston grinning in a friendly fashion still scares the crap out of me...in a good way.

ps don't know where you've got to - I'm a Brit awaiting the next episode of series 2.

I had heard of the original Doctor Who series but had never watched it. Then I checked out the second episode of this season and my first thought was WTF? A time machine/payphone? Despite the low grade fx the show grew on me, mainly because Eccleston is a good actor and Billie Piper is hot.

I wanna be Mr. Baccarin!

I was so annoyed with "The Empty Child" I had to fast forward through both parts (I tivo-ed it). That kid saying "Mummy? Mummy? Are you my mummy? Mummy?" just annoyed the crap outta me. Doctor Who is kinda like Farscape. You have some great episodes but there's some that are just so terrible that you can't bear to watch.

Really? I thought that was one of the best episodes. Scared the out of me. Guess everyone's different. Some people juggle geese!

(I've even heard that some people don't like Firefly, but I'm dismissing this as a vicious romour!)

Ah well, I reckon it's an all-time classic, me.

Mostly because I grew up with Dr Who, and it was always all about suspense and horror, rather than your whizz-bang Sci-Fi stuff.

This was an absolutely bang-on return to its roots cunningly smuggled into a series delivered in the modern microphonic style.

What's even more impressive is that it's now the third most watched show in the UK, despite it being on at practically offpeak hours *and* with a shifting time slot.

Catalyst. It's something that's gonna happen, but once the Doctor shows up, it'll happen THEN.

I just loved the Empty Child.

For the TARDIS confused--it in theory can look like anything (chameleon circuit). Problem is, the Doctor absconded with a broken one and it got stuck looking like it, as the first place he hit was 1960's England.
