Favourite Space Epics ever, TV or Movie ?

CONTACT- I know that 95% of the movie is set on Earth, but when you open your movie with a pull back shot that goes from the Earth all the way to the edge of the galaxy and beyond and your big scene is Jodie Foster being dropped through an interdimensional gateway and being slingshot across the galaxy in the blink of an eye, and all in a sci-fi movie that actually has a brain and basically asks the question about man's place in the universe, I'd categorize it as a space epic.

Alright on to the list:
FF\S (obviously)
Farscape (I was there in the beginning but events conspired to keep me from the last 2 seasons.)
Star Trek: TNG (never liked TOS, V was pretty good, DS9 was pretty good, watched about 2 eps of Enterprise)
Dune (Both and the book, prefer the book then the Sci-fi then the 70's movie)
Hitchhikers Guide (book, haven't seen\heard the rest of them)
Robotech (I read the books before I even knew there was a show or an anime (before I knew what anime was))
Armor (they need to make this book into a movie)
Original Star Wars (3 isn't too bad, 1 and 2 should never be spoken of again)
I only saw a couple of eps of Babylon 5 (I was really young at the time) but I think if I ever watched it I would like it.

In referring to "both Dunes" do you mean the David Lynch version and the Alan Smithee extended version?
I dont much like the Alan Smithee version mainly because it is presented full frame as opposed to widescreen but also because he used different sound effects in places and it just doesnt work for me.

Just to get off topic for a sec I recently watched an episode of "Bones" where 2 geeky scientists were talking and it was mentioned that one of them likes to watch reruns of Firefly. I thought it was cool is all..

I don't think either Dune movie captured the book at all. The book was brilliant (haven't read the rest of the series; have heard tell it might ruin something for me in true Star Wars form, so I just avoid it) and it just doesn't translate well to screen. At least they should have tried to make the characters look somewhat as they were described. (seriously, what was with the glowing eyes? Is there no contact budget for films anymore?)

Ok heres my list
1)FF/Serenity have been transported to the top just from me becoming such a fan over the last several months
since movies are included the next 2 on the list are movies.
2) Aliens 1 & 2, don't care to much for the others.
3) Planet of the Apes (the original)
Maybe not a space epic but the begining of the first one started in space.

Starship Troopers(first one only)
Lost in Space ( the old b/w tv series not the movie)
I'm sure my list would and could be a lot longer if I could think of some others rights now. Just not able to. Also more than likely if I'd have seen some of the shows that are posted by others my list may be different as well. This is how it stands for now.
