At this link you will find a hi-res shot of Serenity in orbit. Pretty much standard fare until you realize there is an airlock door forward of the shuttle. Could there be an airlock here? Possibly reached by the hatchways shown in the forward bulkhead of the cargo catwalks? (It's been a while since I've read the threads, but it seems there were two 'mysterious' hatchways in this bulkhead.

No. The airlock in OiS was on top of the dorsal section, on the right side and close to the Galley dome.

Just goes to show you there still is a lot of Serenity we have yet to see. I bet it’s in the stair well just aft of Mal’s Quarters.

As Gunrunner said, the airlock that Early came in is in the stairwell just aft of Mal's quarters. You'll find that there are many discrepancies between what Zoic produced for Serenity's hull and what was constructed in reality for show sets. Though they came pretty damn close to fitting them into their CGI.

In the diagram you'll notice just to the right of the area marked "FORE PASSAGE" a small clear area in the stairwell heading down to the cargo bay below. This shows where an airlock is located above, where a ladder was positioned against the bulkhead and where Early descended.

Anyone up for drawing a set of Serenity cutaway plans to show the decks atop each other? The one on the DVD is obviously not the current ship configuration...

It should also be noted that according to the movie, there is a third crew seat in the corner just to the left of the door behind the port-side co-pilot seat.

Also, where is that storage room that River is kept in in the movie? Obviously it's connected to the dining area, but where?
