Favourite Space Epics ever, TV or Movie ?

Though not epic in length, it was epic in story, Voices of A Distant Star. It was about 35 minutes long but was concentrated like that Hawaiin Punch syrup they used to sell. Check it out. Though a bit cheesy at times, Space:Above and Beyond. It had love and hate and war and love and they featured both JR Cash and Patsy Cline in several episodes. And then there's that show with that guy from Two Guys And A Girl. Oh yeah, and Animal Mother. But it was on for such a short time, didn't they make a spin off movie or something?

Star Wars (original trilogy)
Red Dwarf
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (more for the books than the film)
Blade Runner (Not really a space epic, but still science fiction and since it is my favourite film I had to squeeze it in here )

It's been so long I forget, but I think you're correct. I was probably thinking of Legend of the Rangers. Either way, still one of my faves. *g*

Forbidden Planet was a really cool film. Sort of prototype for a Star Trek Episode.

Star Trek (mainly TNG)

Babylon 5. Thanks to Channel 4's (UK) scheduling, missed the final 5 episodes.

Hitchhiker's Guide TV series.

Star Wars (IV-VI)

Blake's 7. A "re-boot" might be interesting.

Yeah, it was pretty good. Sort of "Forever War" with a romance side story.

Yes!

I'm not really into sci-fi apart from Firefly (of course), Farscape, BSG and maybe the odd Enterprise. However, I really loved Blake's 7 as a kid and still enjoy seeing it in reruns.

I too would love to see a 're-boot', I'd cast Clive Owen as Blake and John Simm as Vila - I'm not sure what actor could play Avon and not be overshadowed by Paul Darrow's earlier interpretation.

It would also need to retain it's British sensibilities which are much bleaker than America's. I'm sure if the series had been made by a mainstream American network the ending would have been very different - hugs and kisses all around perhaps ;)

I agree with everything listed above, but just to throw out some other things... So these aren't the best or anything, but they're still my favorites after the stuff mentioned.

The first Men in Black plus the animated series. The second MIB was kinda bland to me.

Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick universe. Not so much the movies--the movies are just ok--but the universe it all exists in seemed interesting to me. I mean we don't really see anything of a cohesive, galactic government or authority. There was potential there. It might've been handled better as a TV series.

The Last Starfighter. Yes. I said it. The Last Starfighter. All right, it hasn't aged well, but as it's the first movie to have computer generated ships and planets I think it deserves a mention. Plus the starfighter's design is pretty memorable to me along with the Death Blossom attack.
