Hi, I just installed a Java IRC client on the site and need help in testing to make sure it's working properly. Can some of you go to the following page and see if you can login to chat.

If you run into problems, let me know.

Thanks.

Instead of starting a new thread, I figured I'd address this issue here.

The new Russian IRC Java client doesn't work for me at all. I have a Mac with OSX and am running IE and Mozilla. Just thought you should know, in case others are have similar problems.

He also has another version that might work, but requires you to download Sun's JRE (ver. 1.4) that's about 9Meg for Windows.

I wish I knew more about the Mac to help you.

Did the old applet work for you?

You can always use an external IRC client. Don't know what the Mac has available. Perhaps Tieka or Ringwraith can help you in that department as they are on Macs.

The old one worked for a while... but after about a week it stopped working all together. It doesn't really matter, I have a client... but for future reference, this doesn't work for me.

EDIT: Another strange thing is going on for me as well. On the IRC Chatters screen on the Chat page of this site, it says that Haken, JoshWillow, Guantes, Pandora, and I are on the IRC channel. However, when I open my clients, it shows only Pandora and I. Are you on the IRC channel or is it a glitch in my program?

That's my fault. I've been working on a way to display who is in IRC on the webpage itself. Basically whenever someone logs in or out of IRC, it's supposed to let the website know who logged in or out. The routine I wrote for this isn't perfect and will go out of sync sometime, especially if something goes wrong.

When I have time (looks like none these days, which is actually a good thing), I'll try and improve on it.

Sorry for bumping an old post! (4 years ago, wow!)

Was just wondering if anyone knows the status of the IRC server now? Neither the java client nor mIRC will connect to the server for me, although I can see a list of people on the community page that are supposedly connected (maybe that's just who was online the last time the feature worked?).

I often see people using the web-based (non-java) chat but its not the most comfortable of chats to use. Maybe there just wasn't enough use of the original IRC server so it was taken down? I don't know, but I'd be interested to know if any form of IRC chat is still in operation :D
