Jayne's Name...

I've just been wondering lately if Joss took inspiration for naming Jayne from the Johnny Cash song "A Boy Named Sue".

In the song, a father names his son Sue because he won't be around to teach his son to fight and essentialy be a man, so he gave him a girl's name so he'd have no other choice but to get tough or die...or become a cross-dresser whichever one came first.

I'm thinking that if the series had continued, maybe an episode would have come up dealing with why Jayne was given the name, possibly following the same route as the song.

The spelling of "Jayne" is an old English spelling for a man's name. And Cobb is also an English surname.

Still, the application of the song would make sense. Especially considering how Jayne protests when River says he has a girl's name.

I always thought of the Cash song. Wouldn't be suprised if that is what Joss was thinking.
