THIS is an odd little arguement? Have you missed the threads about "bedding down" with fictional characters? Or the ones about how those fictional characters bathe? I think this is pretty common discussion for all nerds/geeks/sociopaths involved.
And being a misanthrope myself, I'll put in my two cents: River. The mind reading, the proficiency with a variety of weapons, and the fact that she got hit a couple of times during a bar fight by very large men and didn't flinch.
Anyone ever heard the song "Crazy Bitch" by Buck Cherry? Makes me think of that bar scene everytime I hear it... y'know, save for the explicit parts.
Also, on the Summer vs. Sara Michelle things, I read an interview with Summer where she was training for her role in... CSI, I think it was, playing a high school track runner or something. She claims not to be very athletic, saying that she had a really hard time running. Strange for someone who looks like they don't even break 100 lbs., cause I know some 230 lbs. brutes who can do two miles in under 12 minutes.

Being able to know when to hit Buffy doesn't equate to being able to stop her. River would not know how or be physically able to stop her, this fight would be outside of her abilities on a very basic level.
The fight is superhuman vs. upgraded human.
Superhuman is going to win. Destined to win.
Plus Joss has said Buffy would win.
Sure would be a good fight to watch! Unless of course River with her extra powers would know that Buffy was unstoppable and just gave up.
I like this topic each time it comes up! this has to be the 4th or 5th time :)

Telepathy is a superhuman power.

Is neckidness a superhuman power, too? I could take them both on then.
Oooooh, naughty.
BROWNCOATS UNITE!

Got something on the brain there, Agatsu?
Anyway, I say River would win. Seeing the way they both fight, River's style has quite a bit more flexibility and it seems like she'd be better prepared for anything that could possibly come at her.
And besides, Buffy may have fought a whole bunch of vampires at once...but how would she fair against an entire room full of Reavers and then some? Those buggers don't have any particular aversion to wooden stakes...
*realises that she might have just started another debate*
Methink's I be playing Devil's advocate....
But it IS an interesting question, after all...
Mine is an evil sugar high laugh! Bwahahahaha!

Nonsense, of course it does. Like I said, even if she has superhuman endurance, she's not invincible. Her flesh can still be punctured, her organs are still vital. Unless you're going to tell me that's she's frickin superwoman with skin of steel. And even those from Krypton have a weakness. Come on, I haven't watched the show, but I can't imagine it would be any fun if she were never in any kind of danger.

Ah but when? Before the movie or after? Before I could see it. But after? Not a chance!

Forgot one more important advantage. River uses guns (when she has one), Buffy doesn't. I don't think Buffy is impervious to bullets and as far as dodging them, River can hit her targets with her eyes closed, imagine if they were open.

Interview with Joss Whedon
Who would win in a fight? River or Buffy?
Wow, nobody’s ever asked me that, and I’m shocked!
Ultimately, I can’t say. I’m going to have to watch. Buffy’s got the super strength, but River’s got all kinds of crazy training. She’s not a super hero in the same way, but she’s very focused. It’s tough. It’s a smack-down. Be there.
