Whats next? Need a tinsy-winsy bit of help.

About a year ago (maybe less. bad memory), a friend of mine downloaded Firefly and after seeing the pilot he called me over right away. After watching the pilot he and I went out that day and bought the series. It is now my favourite sci-fi, but i've found that after watching it I can't find a new series to watch.
I don't get sky, living in a remote area of England, meaning I only have the terrestrial channels. I don't particularly like downloading things, although I'll download a pilot episode of something once in a while... Thus I have to buy my series. As you can imagine, if I buy a series that I dislike... its rather expensive. So im asking for recomendations? What do I watch next?
So far, I own complete collections of (or as near as possbile) - Stargate SG-1, Battlestar Galactica (new and old), Star Trek - DS9 (I never liked the other ones... don't kill me...), Farscape and of course - Firefly. I own the first dvd of Stargate Atlantis, but I wasn't overly impressed. Nor did I like the new or old versions of Doctor Who. I also caught a few episodes of The Adventures of Jules Verne whilst staying at my mothers down south, and was mildly intrigued, if a bit horrified with the acting.
Recomendations people? I'd be ever so grateful. Sorry for the essay.

If you like the Whedon style (quirky plots and dialogue, 3-D characters) and it doesn't *have* to be sci-fi, you might dip into Buffy and Angel. If it has to be sci-fi, it looks to me as if you've covered most of the bases. I hope someone else will chime in. This post will bump you up for a while.
BTW, welcome to our little rust-bucket, in case the official greeting hasn't been done. We like to be sure you have some strawberries and an invitation to question the buffet in the galley. Mudder's Milk at the bar, and coffee in the big pot.

Thank-ye for the kindly welcome. I've tried Buffy and Angel, but I didn't find them anywhere near as enthralling as Firefly. I read a lot of fatasyish stuff, but for some reason I find it hard to watch. Im strange like that...

if you liked DS9, maybe you check out Babylon 5. There´s a nice and relatively cheap boxset with all 5 seasons plus 5 Movies made for TV. The look of it is horrible, the CGI are PS1-style, but some really great SF-writers have been working on the show, e.g. D.C. Fontana and Harlan Ellison. But, to be honest, I don´t like any of that Babylon-5-Star-Trek-Stargate-Kind-Of-Stuff anymore, cause I think it´s totally a thing of the 90´s. Thats because of Fireflyx. I wish, I´d never watched it!!
The only SF-show with a similar quality is the new BSG, which you already know.
I´ve missed most episodes of "Dark Angel". Maybe I´ll check that out. What about Farscape?! The Muppets always scared me off. But a lot of people think, it´s gorgeous. What do you think?!

I can recomend Space:Above and Beyond, Jeremiah, Wonderfalls and Dark Angel. All good shows, and worth the dough in my opinion.

The muppets on Farscape are unlike anything you've seen on the Muppet Show. Farscape is as close to "Firefly with aliens" as currently exists.
For Fantasy readers, I'd also suggest looking up Disney's Gargoyles. Don't let the Disney tag fool you, this show is unlike anything Disney studios has done before or since, or likely ever again. It was a Saturday morning kids' show, with references to Shakespeare, history, mythology, folklore, and literature. Characters changed, grew, suffered, and evolved. The villains were complex, multifacetted, justified, and occasionally right, and the heroes were flawed, imperfect, emotional, and occasionally even suicidal.
It came out in '94, so it's a bit dated now, but it's still undeniably brilliant. Great cast, great acting, great scripts, great animation. . . Watch it. S1 and S2.1 are out on (surprisingly inexpensive) DVD, we're still eagerly waiting S2.2.
(I just watched the "City of Stone" 4-parter last night, back-to-back. It was like a Gargoyles movie.

i can recommend a couple sci-fi movies you may or may not have seen yet...
of course there is my all time fave...
Blade Runner
the wacky Forbidden Planet
& one i just found... a Korean film callled Natural City
also the Cowboy Beebop series is very good as well as the movie if you like anime type stuff..
but check out Natural City, and let me know what you think..
