As much as i hate to be the one to disagree, with well me, i must admit i think i was wrong earler.
The more i think on this the less it grows on me.
I mean if browncoats cant even get this straight in there heads, what chance do we have of impriniting it on the people we are trying to recruit over summer.
Just my thoughts on thinking maybe we need a rethink.
That said if the majority love it, i more than happy to spend all summer long trying to say it.

I do admit that it can be a bit awkward to say at first. Part of the reason is that Serenity, for such a short word, has four syllables and is a little bit of a workout to say just in itself.
If one slows down a bit and thinks about the words, rather than rushing through them, then they're more easily said. On the other hand, it can be a negative if a majority of people often misspeak it. Hey, even I had to practice it a couple of times before my brain said it right... then I still manged to mangle it a few times after that. (Of course, I am somewhat sleep deprived so that is a factor too.)
This thread was meant to toss the suggestion out there and get some feedback. I'd be nice to name the day something that still directly promotes "Serenity", yet gives a nod to the terminology of the 'verse... plus, is a name that would intrigue (and not creep out) new folk.
That said, perhaps SereniVersary is still a possible additional choice. Who knows, maybe a lot of words in the future will get combined this way? We could be inventing future speak right now!

I like Serenity 'Versary in the written form. It's got the name clearly, the use of the apostrophe is both grammatically correct and artistically significant, and it contains enough intrigue for someone not in the know, without crossing the line into gibberish.
But...
I think I prefer SereniVersary. It has the benefit of sounding the entire word of anniversary, and flows off the tongue and into the ear more easily. I also like the look of it - especially since it still calls back to the 'verse thing. My only problem with it would be with reguard to folks who are not in the know, but that could probably be addressed with a subtitle for stuff geared towards the unwashed masses. (e.g. SereniVersary Day: Celebrating the One Year Anniversary of Joss Whedon's Serenity)
Also, because it is one word, it can be more flexibly modified:
1st SereniVersary
SereniVersary Day
SereniVersary Gift
Though, I will admit, I keep typing it incorrectly.

We need the word Serenity spelled out, because that is the thing we want to promote. Although I agree that "Sereniversary" is more fun to say, we're trying to get the word out, and the word is "Serenity".
'Versary already does call back to the 'verse thing, as this sentence proves.
I don't like subtitles. Especially when they're short stories.
We can still call it Sereniversary amongst ourselves.

I like the term, but it is hard to say....quite alot of syllables and I dunno how the people who won't know about it react to it.
Honestly Im stumped for a better suggestion, I wish I could give one. Its good... its just a little difficult to pronounce.
Maybe it can be "Serenity Anniversary".... and the shorted form be Serenity versary.
For some reason its easier for me to say Serenity Anniversary. They are both terms public is aware of, its just they wont know the exact meaning. Anway I guess thats my suggestion. It doesnt have the mystery of Serenity 'Versary, its just easier for me to say, read and understand(if I were a non browncoat).

A lot of the promotion will involve posters and flyers where people will see it in the written form. As someone pointed out in this thread, "Serenity 'Versary" works well visually.

"Serenity 'Versary" becomes much easier to say so long as one doesn't rush. We have a tendency to want to get through words in a hurry.
A suggestion for folks: Try an experiment, instead of thinking of both words at the same time and trying to get to the end... first, just say "Serenity", then picture 'Versary and say it, take a small beat between them. It's saying them too fast that's the problem... the brain does a shortcut... it sees the "Ser" and the "Ver" and some kind of bridge is formed where the stuff in the middle gets shortened.
We need a name that is fun for the fans and contains a feeling of FF/S talk, yet is still accessible to non-fans. However, we'll also want to avoid a name that starts getting too fan cult sounding. Puts new folk off...
The floor is still open for suggestions, but it would be good to settle on a good name fairly soon... that way promotional materials and announcements can start to be generated.
