Except that it's not LA, but Atlanta....

What was the site of the nation’s deadliest hotel fire in 1946 will become a boutique hotel in 2007.
When constructed in 1913, the Winecoff Hotel was billed as the first “fire-proof” hotel. Built with brick, the structure had no sprinklers or fire escapes. A fire broke out on the third floor in the wee hours of December 7, 1946. It ravished the building, and 119 people lost their lives that day. Despite various plans for refurbishing and reopening the property at the intersection of Peachtree and Ellis streets, it has remained virtually unused for over a half-century.
But new life has been breathed into the site, and local politicians and downtown supporters celebrated the groundbreaking of the Ellis Hotel on April 21. Developers plan for the grand opening to occur on April 21, 2007, as the new lodging option launches at 176 Peachtree Street. Named the Winecoff Hotel after its owner in 1913, the building will be renamed the Ellis Hotel.”
People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

Yeah, I know. It doesn't LOOK like the Hyperion Hotel, but that it stood vaccant for 50+ years and wasn't tore down makes it seem kinda ......similar ? And that 119 souls perished, albiet by fire and not by a life sucking demon, seems sorta creepifying too.
Maybe it's just me.

We Humans are an arrogant lot.
It's an unsinkable ship! It sinks.
It's an unburnable building! It Burns.

More insane ramblings by the people who brought you beeeer milkshakes!
And as you know, these are open forums, you're able to come and listen to what I have to say.
