Yeah, chris. Loved my g'parents' farm, too. Corn so high you could hide all day.
Strawberries red among the green leaves and white flowers.
Chicken-house, all warm and bird-y and egg-y.
Irrigation hoses.
The house itself.
All gone now, and many of the people, too, but the old photographs tell a story of a way of life.

It is requirement that you watch the 4th disk, then watch it all again 1 through 4, then watch Serenity, then watch all outtakes, deleted scenes, gag reels and commentaries. This is so you will be able to pepper your posts with references to all lines, and scenes.

It is only in this that you will become one with the 'verse.

Sort of like taking French, and knowing you have crossed the barrier of learning the language when you dream in French.

I'm away for two days and everyone wants to know about the farm. I didn't think anyone would care, I mean no one seems to like farms anymore.

It's not a farm with livestock and it isn't a commercial farm. 34 acres most of them fields of ordinary grass. Three strawberry patches, a couple of rhubarb plants, one pear tree, two clumps of blueberries, one glass greenhouse, some bee hives, and such.

It's just a farm, and with it come farm memories, picking strawberries in summer, eating them in the patch, bringing them home, making strawberry rhubarb pie with them and the rhubarb next to the field. Catching frogs in the pond, climbing on the butternut tree which had a tire swing and a buoy swing.

My grandfather set up some hanging pipes in the front of the greenhouse that my sister and I could play like a musical instrument (with a tire iron instead of a mallet) the green house had various flowers, and tomatoes. There were the blueberries, there were the woods to wonder in, mostly there were strawberries actually, but I love every little bit of the place, even the deer that would eat the crops my grandfather grew for himself (I never liked squash anyway.)

Ever since my grandfather dies the place has fallen into disrepair, but now that my grandmother joined him the property belongs to my mother and my aunt. My aunt wants to sell the whole thing to land developers lot by lot to make the maximum possible profit.

When I think of it I think about picking strawberries as a kid, geraniums in the greenhouse and deer in the woods. The first thing she did after my grandmother’s funeral was take a walk around the place trying to figure out how to divide it into lots. (Literally first thing after, we held a reception at my grandmother’s house right after she was put in the ground and my aunt decided to figure out how to divide the place into lots right then and there.)

What’s needed to save it is money, and I honestly see no way in hell to get enough. On the other hand it’s going to end up either all sold by lots with the money split between my aunt and mother (in which case my mother will end up buying some of the lots herself with the money from the other lots,) or half sold by lots. Either way it means that to save some of it doesn’t require enough money to save all of it.

Is there a plan? No, I have no plan. I don’t even have a way. If someone could come up with a plan and share it with me that would be nice.

The shit will hit the fan around July, and I can’t think of any way to get together enough money to buy much of anything in that much time. If people would actually donate to help maybe I can make enough to save a little bit.

It looks very different from space you know, I mean I knew the strawberry patches were different sizes but until I discovered the beauty of satellite photos I didn’t know they were that different. Also I have to confess I’m not really sure that I marked the blueberries as being in the right place, I mean I think that’s where they are, and there is something dark in the picture there, but I’m kind of unclear when looking at it from that angle.

Then again my powers of perception have never been perfect, until I found a satellite photo last year I had no idea those trees were in a semicircle.

I need pictures of the way it looks on the ground, if it's gona be gone I need something the remember it by beyond cruddy sat photo.

Right now there are seven turkey vultures nesting in the trees right behind the largest strawberry patch, when someone mentioned that we’d never see them again because the trees would be gone this time next year it made me want to cry.

Dagnabbit, chris, can't get but a big black patch with a narrow green bottom border at either address.

Dunno how your problem s/b addressed in UK (short of aunt-through-engine, which I'm *not* suggesting), but can you get advice from your bank manager or whoever does farm credit there?

Could be some creative way to save the bulk of the place by farming it for real -- by you or a renter -- or there might be a conservation-oriented way to approach it.

I've read on BBC site about how bees and things are increasingly endangered by loss of very specific habitat items, whether it's flower species or the precise kind of physical niche needed for a nest.

I'm assuming the vultures aren't endangered -- but what else is in or near those trees? Is there something you could offer to grow, provide, or do on the property that would make it worth saving in someone else's eyes?

Sorry such density here. I tend to throw off ideas like a centrifuge when I get going.
