No, I know Gossi and Simon aren't the only fans out there, but they both have a lot of sway (btw, getting Jeremy on board is a very good idea) (and as honorable as 11th is, she doesn’t have a website with thousands of visitors each day. Invoking her name has cache with the fandom, but it doesn’t do much more for the effort then that, and many new fans don't know who she is anyway).

A lot of new fans, who weren't around for the original guerilla marketing battles to get the movie made, are not familiar with my work... unless they've seen it around and didn't know "who" did it, or if they bought the Serenity RPG book.

However, once new fans find my webpage they're very happy to have the posters available so they can do their own guerilla marketing. I love getting emails and posts from new fans. The energy is so good for revitalizing the campaign for more Firefly/Serenity.

My website doesn't get thousands (except for a few times during special promotions) of visitors each day like the message boards do... but the site has just passed the 45,000 hit mark... which ain't too shabby!

Also, the "cache" reference is nice... but I can also offer new promotional items for the endeavor... revised posters and new banners to contribute to the cause. I'd also be able to add an announcement about the Serenity Summer Campaign (or whatever it will be called) which is leading up to the big Serenity Day. My site still gets many hits a day, and it's another way to help put the word out.

Yer Art Companion,

11th Hour

Ok, maybe its just me, but the SSC (Serenity Summer Campaign) seems to offer everyone what they want.

23 of juners have there day, we get all summer to have shindigs and arrange for a big blow out on the 30th of september, which the change of date voters can get behind.

I back the SSC, anyone with me?

Just trying to bring some order to a debate that seems to be going round in circles.

Why not spend the summer in serenity? SSC

This is my first time commenting on any kind of message board. I just finished watching the Firefly DVDs, I have not yet seen Serenity. Came across this site and this thread and figured I might as well throw in my two cents based on my somewhat limited knowledge of the history here, that the Sept. 30th date is the best choice for a variety of reasons.

1) June 23rd is awfully soon and as someone who has planned some really large events - y'all will have more fun if you give yourself more time.

2) The purpose of the charity screenings is to raise money for Joss' favorite charity as a kind of birthday gift. The purpose of your event is very different (send a message to Universal) - one good reason to separate them (as well as to keep the peace). The date of Sept. 30th is more relevant to your cause.

3) I'm guessing that it is better to watch Firefly before seeing the movie. So if you are looking for a way to build and keep momentum towards the Sept. 30th date. Start with a Firefly blitz, maybe emphasizing an episode each week leading up to the 9/30 date.

4) I don't know that a one-day spike in DVD sales is as important as overall sales. What the movie studio needs to know is that a large number of people would be interested in more shows/movies. Perhaps your goal should be to get to a certain number of DVDs sold by the Sept 30th date. Or to keep a steady stream of new sales in order to keep the series and movie Amazon rating above a certain level. I was surprised when I ordered Firefly that it ranked higher than some newly released movies. Anyway, this once again points to the one year anniversary of the movie being the date for your final goal.

And that way as you get new people hooked on the series, you aren't asking them to hold off purchasing DVDs - I wasn't going to be able to wait until June 23rd anyway.

I would also encourage you to strongly support the other event, in hopes for reciprical PR.

Hey 11th Hour, hope you don't think I was bashing you. I love your work, and your place in Firefly/Serenity history, is, well, historic. :) People should definitely go to your site and grab the art, then plaster it on anything, as is intended. (And you DVD cover design covers the shameful llama on my Serenity DVD.)

My point was, that we need to get folks who run the fan forums involved. I didn't mean to make it sound like you had nothing to contribute other then cache, and I'm sorry if it came off that way. When Prakash mentioned your name in response to me throwing out Gossi and Simon's names, I meant to respond that the comparison is more apples/oranges. I was trying to clarify my previous post, and did so poorly I guess.

You are the goddess of guerrilla marketing, of course you're important in all this, and this whole campaign is better for having you on board. :)

Diz,

Anyone who calls me a goddess, is downright shiny in my book. Muchas gracias!

Actually, I thought your post regarding the message boards was very positive... and I agree! Those sites get lots of traffic and are a very valuable, in fact a crucial, way to spread the word.

Mainly I wanted to let folks know that I'm on hand to contribute guerilla marketing art, posters and banners, and whatever else I'm able to do. I'm a bit crazy busy now, finishing more art in connection with the Serenity RPG, but I'll have more time in a few weeks.

Also, and this is still in the planning stages, I'll be at Dragon*Con and I'd LOVE to help promote Serenity Day there. Dragon*Con takes place at the beginning of September and it will be a wonderful big Sci-Fi convention to do a final promotional push. Plus, we can mention that the end of September is a good time to stock up on holiday gifts... and Serenity DVDs require no refrigeration, they'll keep 'till December!

I appreciate all the kind remarks.

Yer Art Companion,

11th

P.S.
Glad to hear you're enjoying my alt DVD cover... there will be another design coming soon...

So its settled then. The plan is to do what has is now being called the Serenity Summer Campaign that will have a grand performance on Serenity Day, September 30.

Quick question. Does anyone know the address of who we should write to at Universal. It's a vital piece of information and all my suggestions bank on that little bit of knowledge.

I changed my sig a few posts ago, I think it sums up this new idea well. It's nothing final but I kind of like it and think it's a good start. I'm running with this idea now and IMHO I think we all should.

One goal.
One plan.
One army of Browncoats.

On June 23rd, you can't stop the signal.
On September 30th, we aim to misbehave.

I like the idea of a Serenity Summer Campaign and Serenity Day, September 30. It avoids conflicts with other events. It also give us more time.

This campaign will not succeed unless all the Firefly/serenity FAN web sites work together. Some of you might not realize that SciFi and IMBd have very active message boards. Don't forget the Podcast too.

Peace my friends, It's OK to debate, but let's play nice!

One day.
One mission.
One army of Browncoats.

On June 23rd(err...September 30th), we aim to misbehave all summer long!

I didn't read all the posts here, but the OP is pretty convincing. I vote for Sept 30th. Hopefully those with plans in the works for June 23rd can push back the date.

I like the campaign plan. We could ALL start a "Serenity Campaign" on June 23rd by supporting Serenity Now/Equality Now (IT'S CHARITY!), then set up summer BBQ Shindigs, collect support on the conventions, rally the troops, plan September 30th to the minute, maybe get some of the cast on board (recording short video messages at a convention to motivate people is not much work for them, and they'll like it, and it will do wonders for morale.). Then we top it off with Serenity Day in September and watch how our buying frenzy combined with spreading the word (and the DVDs) and Christmas sales are gonna do.
The reason "we are gonna make it bigger, so we made a campaign out of it and set Serenity Day as the Grand Finale on Sept 30th" sounds good enough to me to let everyone save face or whatever.

And how could even THEONEANDTRUEALMIGHTYB!X object to that "campaign"-plan? "HIS" event starting off a campaign that spans all of the summer? He'll like it, and he can't complain that we're hijacking anything, because we're coming to him as fellow Browncoats to help Serenity Now/Equality Now and not ask anything in return but his support for the campaign as a whole. If he still objects, I think his own people will start asking questions as to his priorities, if they haven't already. He's not our business, though, Serenity is.
Let's do what's best for Serenity.

I support the "Serenity Summer Campaign"-idea with the SN/EN screenings as the start (as a pure charity event), Serenity Day on Sept. 30th to top it off, and all manners of shiny Shindigs and conventions and missions inbetween.
Come on, people, this is gonna ROCK! There's damage done no matter what we do, and this is the best way to get out of this increasingly unpleasant situation with the best results for everyone.

I vote for this.
Promote, support, rally for the Serenity Now/Equality Now charity showings on June 23rd, try gathering support in our own areas for screenings, attend if at all possible;
support and promote a "Serenity Summer Campaign" that will garner more of an influx of new browncoats with our own shindigs and from the charity screenings;
cap it with "Serenity Day September 30th".
This will give all of us a fresh spark to promote and spread the word, not to mention grant us time to pull together marketing, get the media involved and support from all browncoats across these fan boards.
Since signing on fff.net a couple months ago I've been on daily, even if I don't post every time... I'm pretty up on all the discussions, so there's definitely NOT good vibes lately with all of this.. Honestly, this solution seems to make the most sense, AND, grants us ALL time to get things rolling...
(Personally, I'm kinda digging all this summer promotion thing, and can see doing some of my own BBQ shindigs!!!)

"Wanna?"

There's a few things I need to say, and I'm hoping you all will take this with due respect.

Far as I'm aware, there has been no fighting between B!x and I, between B!x and Maxrimstain, or between B!x and anyone. Just because there's a disclaimer on his site does not mean he's fighting with anyone. It was explained to me that one of the screenings wished to call their shindig a "Serenity Day benefit." If I had been working for months on something that was very near and dear to me to have something that popped up within a week being credited with all my hard work, my nose would be out of joint too.

I've e-mailed B!x and have been e-mailed back. Twice. I don't recall any name flinging or nasty words exchanged. Actually, I've got records of him telling me to go ahead and promote his site, but to PLEASE make sure that it is clear that the two events are two separately organized events. One of my volunteers has gone so far as to have pre-typed posts on the Browncoat Signal Corps website approved by B!x. I have asked for nothing more from him.

I see no arguements going on in this relationship, only on this board and at Whedonesque. I've had my comments posted on there, and I'll repeat the same to you. Give it a chance.

If everything is based on how B!x feels about having his date usurped, then it should be Joss we're asking. And following that odd line of rationale, Sept. 30th is out as well, because Gossi mentioned a "Thank you, Universal" letter writing campaign. This is a path of procrastination and twisted lines of what-ifs and might-bes that I do not want to head down.

I stepped up, am trying to coordinate a few things, and was about to finalize some of them by week's end. I HAD made a decision and had announced it to everyone on the volunteer mailing list.

I'm keeping the 23rd as the Serenity Day DVD Drive.

Now don't all go getting your knickers in a twist if you voted for the 30th, because I ain't done yet!

Forget the donated website fees, donated URLs, and donated PHPBB, there's a darn good reason for it.

The Browncoat Army.

An Army isn't assembled for one measly battle, it's assembled to defend, to protect, to organize long standing campaigns, and sometimes even to attack. This is what I'd like you all to do, although we're attacking in the metaphorical sense. We have a fandom to protect here and a movie to promote. Doesn't matter what day, what it's called, who organized it, or what it's in honor of!

Our first big event after this moment happens on the 23rd. Then it'll be the next event (which will probably be Sept. 30th once I speak to Gossi and that HAS been mentioned on a thread I posted on) and then the next, and then the next. I'm in for the long haul and just because I'm pushing for June 23rd does not mean I'm slacking off come June 24th!

But the point is that we're PRO-ACTIVE. We're working for what we love. Even if it's a single post on a board somewhere to spread the word. Not everyone will be able to attend a screening, myself included. This is a way to involve all Browncoats, new and old.

If anyone who volunteered feels that they cannot complete what was assigned to them, then I please ask that you forward on to me what you have accomplished and either myself or another volunteer will try and continue. I do NOT want people stressed over this. If you can't run, you walk, if you can't do that...well, you know the rest.

Now for some very exciting news: I've been contacted by two very important websites about June 23rd.

www.Whedonverse.org and www.Gateworld.net.

Whedonverse.org has been dedicated to donating Joss Whedon related DVDs (and sometimes books and comics!) to libraries and troops since 2004. They showed a great interest in coordinating something with us and I'll be cultivating that into something more solid with my webgenius (yes, it's one word now).

Gateworld.net is a large Stargate website who approached ME. Yeah, I know, amazing, they're not even Firefly related but there's a whole thread related to June 23rd and
