Well, I for one, can say that I could be involved with this effort if the date was changed. I never got involved in the first place because I've got too much going on in my life now--but Sept 30? That's doable. I'm sure I'm not the only one. I doubt the fire will come off of this if that date is changed--in fact I really believe the opposite will happen. Right now, outside of FFF.net, this effort is not very well known, and of the people who have heard of it, it's got a negative vibe (especially at whedonesque).
And it might go far if someone who is good with diplomacy sends B!X a note of good luck with his screenings, and asks him to come on board with a launch, rather then (in his eyes) a competing campaign.

I love all the enthusiasm here at FFF and don't let anyone tell you it's bad for fandom. That's bullshit.
Nobody owns June 23, nobody is a better fan than anyone else. Don't cave in to "save the fandom" crap, that is ridiculous. As if you suddenly have to follow a bunch of rules because you love the show and want to share it with others.
The negative, condencending attitude in that Whedonesque thread really annoys me. It's THE site for Joss news though, and Joss frequently posts there himself, which is damn cool. But the people who post there aren't better fans than anyone else, and they act like they're in charge of all Joss fan projects or something. I say, don't give in to that shit.

Aren't there a billion things that can be modified, printed and sent out on this very site as far as flyers..
There is a site already, can it be modified to reflect a long campaigne.
and aren't we just talkin' about convincing people to buy the DVD... as I and many have said go out and become salespeople... just don't think the average buyer will adhere to our one date.

actually Diz(now there are several posts), I believe numerous people have offered to send him an olive branch in emails...including Kaele....So I think... right now that point is moot. One can try again with the modified plan....although I honestly would not be surprised with the response. That is my one nbit of pessimism... sorry baout that

I'm all for two days. From what I've seen, quite a few people have already set up screenings and other plans for that day that can't be easily changed. And fans gained on 23rd June would have something for which to work(ie, getting recruits for 30th Sept)over the summer. And, as a student, I know I would probably be more excited about something happening in the summer, though I can see a September date livening up the biginning of the school year, too.
And hey, two chances to get together and go biggledy over Serenity/Firefly have got to be better than one, right? 
So let's go for the gusto and show them what we can do!
PS- I'll follow FOLLOWMAL...(no pun intended

You guys... the fandom won't be torn apart. What does that even mean anyway? The fans aren't going anywhere.
Joss doesn't care about fan crap. He's seen SO MUCH already with the Buffy boards. He's a pro. The concept of fandom being torn apart is just plain silly.
What does Joss want on his birthday? I don't know. But if there are a bunch of charity screenings and another group of people organizing a DVD purchase - If I were Joss I'd be happy.
Either way, it doesn't matter. The "fandom" is just fine, will be just fine. And whether or not Joss has a happy birthday will NOT depend on a petty fan squabble about who is giving the best present.
Browncoat Army made a plan and they should not be bullied or guilt tripped by other fans.
