Kaele ~ Somethin' else, important, to think about...
We're going to be contacting Universal to tell them of our shiny plan. How the fans are still holdin', we're goin' to be out there promotin' our rumps off spreading the word of Serenity far and wide...
It'll be the biggest damn shiny day for Serenity EVER!
It'll go down in history!!!
Oh, by the way Universal, we're calling it "Firefly Day".

Did I mention how much I appreciate everything everyone is doing? You guys are great. :)
And your support and trust is very encouraging. I am very happy to be doing this. Remember, it won't get done without YOU!

What 11thHour said. And, my take is:
I think the way to go is with the url that echoes what we're doing. Buy the SerenityDVD on June 23rd. Same message for Browncoat and the new fan driven there by curiosity.
It's easier to remember for the non-initiated.

Wins my vote.

EDIT: also, thinking long term, if fireflyday is taken by us, what if some future initiative, doing something Firefly-centric, could have made better use of that URL, marketing-wise? Us using SerenityJune23 opens up the opportunity for us continuing to use this URL to drum up support for the third movie, etc

Excellent suggestion!

Absolutely! I did mention it in my post, but it sure needs to be emphasized ~ Save "Firefly Day" for when we do something that really revolves around Firefly.

So...is June23 about promoting sequel to Serenity? Or is it about getting Firefly back on the air? Why would you want another movie, when the Half-season of Firefly was so much better...not to mention longer...than Serenity.
I originally thought the people here were pushing for the purchase of the Serenity DVD because it would be cheaper and more reasonable than asking people to buy a season of the TV show. Then I looked it up and the season is only $25....
This entire effort seems to be focused on getting another movie made. I thought we were fans of the show? Movies are great, but they are few and far between. Why are you pushing for a 2nd movie, am I missing something?

It's because right now Universal owns the rights to the 'verse. No TV show can be made without them, and if they were to make anything it would be a sequel. Purchasing the series on DVD is great, but it gives nothing to Universal. Therefore we need to send our cashy money their direction by buying the BDM in order to turn some heads. Hope that cleared it up.

Don't they own the Sci-Fi channel, as well? So technically, they COULD do a new series.
If nothing else, we'll get a fun and exciting day out of it. If we're lucky, we get an extended special edition with more commentaries and goodies or something. If we're the luckiest bastards in the 'verse, we get another movie or even a series.
It's nearly impossible, but hey, look where we all are - and why.

Well, actually, Fox still own's the rights to the 'verse on Television as far as I'm aware. Universal simply owns the rights to the films. That said, they could potentially purchase the TV rights from Fox, which is something worth pushing for.

We all would love to have the show back.
But the facts are that we stand a much better chance of impressing Universal with our numbers and our buying power with this mission and getting a movie is much more realistic.
It's like much in life.. we have to do what makes the most sense.
Even though our most cherished dream is different.
