I was watching "Safe" last night and my husband grabbed the remote, backed up the DVD and paused.

There was that little boy (the bad actor) from Jaynestown in the crowd getting ready to burn our witch.

Anyone know if he's someone's kid? (He clearly wasn't picked for his great acting skills.)

Wonder if he is in any other episodes? (Guess I'll just have to go back and watch all the DVDs again....tough job.)

The blonde kid?

I also think I saw him on Eavesdown Docks in the pilot. Walking by in front of some person in a yellow sari type outfit. I've always wondered if it was the same kid.

I'm not sure about the time (I can try to check tonight). It's either right before Simon climbs up on the platform or right before Mal climbs up on the platform to talk to Simon.

Also - has anyone noticed that when you turn on the subtitles that there is a spot where it says (inaudible) when Mal is talking to Simon? It's right before Simon says "Yes, I'm very proud". We figured out what he is saying, but it took a lot of backing up. (Of course now I can't remember for anything - I'm at work.)

Now I'm gonna have to go look for that kid in the pilot when I get home.

I forget the exact phrasing, but Mal tells Simon that he has a talent for alienating folks.

I don't disagree on any particular point.

"I gotta say, Doctor, your talent for alienaten' folks is downright miraculous."

I got it right away. It's one of my favorite lines and I often say it about myself. :D
I noticed the boy, too, and just figured he was a studio-extra regular.

And is it just me, or is the bartender from the beginning of "Shindig" also in the Maidenhead in the BDM? I've tried pausing and looking closer but the glimpse is so quick.

The kid in Jaynestown is the son of Marita Grabiak, who directed the episode. She stated it in the intro of The Big Damn Firefly/Serenity Trivia Book.

That's interesting. I'm sure there are other friends/family of directors/producers/writers/actors amongst the extras in many of the episodes. I would be curious if anyone has compiled a listing of other uncredited extras with connections to the cast and crew.

I have spotted the kid in question in four episodes: Serenity (the Pilot), Safe, Jaynestown, and the Message! In the Message, he runs into one of
the crew (Mal?) during the opening scenes in the Space Station.
