For those interested, here is the latest stats for FFF.NET for the last 30 DAYS:

Successful Hits: 28,769,940
Average Hits Per Day: 871,816
Page Views: 7,301,478
Average Page Views per Day: 221,256
Average Page Views per Unique Visitor: 24
Document Views: 3,094,676
Visitors: 1,017,401
Average vistors per Day: 30,830
Total files accessed: 23,882,056
Total bandwidth used: 277,865 MB (271.353 GB)

The 271.353 GB of bandwidth used is somewhat of a cause for concern because of the high monthly hosting fee, but otherwise I'd say that FFF.NET is doing very well and it seems interest in Firefly and Serenity is as strong as ever.

Holy gigs Batman! Keep a little of the money you are going to throw at Joss and toss it Haken's way. We would not be where we are today without this great site.

De-lurking to stir stuff up

Your bandwidth could perhaps be reduced a bit by using semantic HTML with stylesheets as opposed to hardcoded widths and heights and colors on every element. Also would make the site faster to load.

I also wonder if there might be ways to reduce the bandwith by providing pages which provide a more finely-tuned set of information specific to what you're looking for. For example a way to view only messages you *haven't* seen before in a thread (maybe plus the last one or two that you have seen, to get some context) would be really useful on some of the long ones. My browser gets all slow every time I visit "Firefly Quote Game" and I bet that's not doing wonders for your bandwidth either.

Another would be a way to "subscribe" to a few particular threads and then get a single page with all new messages in all threads you're subscribed to. That would save a lot of page hits.

I can't call myself an expert but I do have a little knowledge in this area, and at some point in the next few months I may find myself with some time on my hands in which case I'll certainly volunteer to help if that would be useful. Failing that I can offer advice on how to implement any of those things, if there's interest.
