Formerly known as the Browncoat Army.

Ok, I'm not giving up, not by a LONG shot. I just liked how crew sounded better. I MUCH prefer being associated with Mal and our BDHs than those lilly livered Independant bigwigs who gave up on Serenity Valley. LOL Plus, we were getting too large a thread over there and someone asked for a new thread, so it seemed like the best time for my name change.

Mission updates:
(please check often for updates posted HERE, not further down the thread)

Website Job: According to what Maxrimstain has posted a website is already purchased and as soon as I get an official word on what it is, we're running with it. From what I've read, April 20th is the goal date.

Signature Job: Please change your signatures to this:

One movie.
One day.
One mission.
On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.
(official website link to be added soon)

Again, Crew is more fun oriented. I'm doing this out of love, not to attack anyone! I hope everyone else agrees.

Banner Job: All submissions are to be sent to pizzaaoow@yahoo.com MalNourished is in command of this mission. Please have all banner submissions sent to her by April 22nd. Content should include some form of "Serenity Day, June 23rd" and "Browncoat".

Avatar Job: Please contact pizzaaoow@yahoo.com MalNourished is coordinating this.

Tee-shirt Job: In progress! Yay!

Webring Job: "Browncoat Crew" webring. I've had a few volunteers and will be mailing them shortly.

Webmaster Job: Any volunteers for this mission, please contact followmal@gmail.com You will be combing the web for all Firefly and Serenity related sites. We're going to start e-mailing those webmasters to link to the June 23rd website and to hopefully display our banner. This is a huge undertaking, so please see FollowMal for a form letter and which websites you can hit.

Spam Job: ZISKER has volunteered for this mission. Please PM http://www.fireflyfans.net/showprofile.asp?un=zisker to volunteer to help. This is to get the word out on BROWNCOAT related sites ONLY.

Blog Job: I need a movie submission to be put up on people's Myspace, LJ, blogspot, and any other blog related site for Browncoats to upload to their blogs. I want a mini-commercial. Submit them to me please. I've had a bunch of volunteers and will be assigning a leader soon!

Podcast Job: Volunteer is working now. :)

Radio Job: Chindi will be handling this one. She will be sending care packages of DVDs to radio stations for them to give away on Serenity Day as contest prizes. Anyone who can mail me with information as to the largest local morning radio show in these cities would be greatly appreciated: Washington DC, NYC, Chicago, Seattle, Vancouver, Kansas City, Boston. (We've already got Philly, SF, and L.A. covered)

Serenity DVDs: Please go here to purchase them if possible: http://homevideo.universalstudios.com/title_old.php?titleId=2619 This is Universal's website. I feel this would be much more of an impact than hitting Amazon and the money would go straight to Universal. It'd be within their umbrella and I feel the sales numbers would reach them much faster. Now, I'm NOT saying don't go to Amazon. I'm giving my recommendation. If you cannot purchase online, we'll take any sale of the DVD! Go to a local store if you need to. Just buy! (Universal site is my preferred method though. Thanks to PizmoBeach and 11thHour for the suggestion!)

Serenity Day vs. Firefly Day: I can't admit that I like one or the other better (I love them both!), but please, EVERYONE consider this. Browncoat Day is already designated for Dec. 9th, the release of the Firefly DVD. And Firefly Day has already been taken. For my part, I am going along with what was already in place by the Serenity Now/Equality Now people. They started first and they're pushing Serenity, not Firefly. And seeing as how it's Joss' birthday and he supports Equality Now...

This has already taken me over a half hour to wr

Kaele, I apologize for sticking my nose in this, but how about:

One day.
One plan.
One mission.

On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

Crew sounds smaller than an army, and Mal took on a mission in Serenity. . .

This tagline would work for those doing screenings as well.

"Wanna?" – Mal to Kaylee, Out of Gas

I've just been calling it Serenity Day . . .let me know when we've got the official name and URL. Then I'll start dispatching people.

One day.
One plan.
One army of Browncoats.

On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

Shiny!!!

Allow me to toss in an additional idea (for us foreigners, mainly).

See, I own already two copies of the movie.
I don't need another one for me (right now), so the point is: whom to donate the copy I **WILL** purchase directly from Universal?
All my friends have it already. Also, I don't want a mess here, I want to take part of the ONLINE FRENZY (we should really try to order the movie at the same place!!), and so we'll be talking about Region 1 versions, not playable here...

So, what about making a list of EXISTING addresses to send the movie to?
I'll pay the copy, and just have it sent to someone else... possibly a potential new fan, but if everything fails, even a RANDOM address would do... spreading, spreading, spreading!
This list would be aimed to foreigners like me, or anyone else... of course we'd have to implement a way to delete "already picked" addresses...

A thought just occurred to me. We need to agree on a timezone, and have everyone buy the DVD while it is June 23rd in that timezone. I suggest Pacific Time. That's where Joss lives, and Universal is at least partially located there.

That would mean that all online purchases on June 23 should be made between 00:00 and 24:00 Pacific Daylight Time (that's -7 hours UTC/GMT).

If you can't buy online, then I suppose you should purchase the DVD when it is June 23rd in your timezone.

One movie.
One day.
One mission.

On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

I'm not sure I understand the logic here. We're a world-wide fanbase. I think it would make far more sense to have sales come around the globe in waves. Plus, our UK & German counterparts are probably going to only be able to buy from Amazon.de and Amazon.uk, or be stuck with higher prices and shipping costs.

I also think that telling people NOT to buy from their local stores is a bad idea. Small retailers may not be able to show the impact of large ones, but they are vital to any commercial base, and we want the support of any market we can get.
(And I'm not just saying that because I manage an independent bookstore.)

Pirata, I was just thinking about this when I went to bed last night! Were you pulling a River on me? LOL

Well, yesterday I stopped into my local library and asked if they had a copy of Serenity. Lo and behold, they didn't! So...ideas for your new DVDs that are now your extra extra copies: Please find a local public or school library to donate them to. I have quite a few colleges around here that I'm sure would welcome a copy as well! Even if some public libraries get extra copies, they sometimes have sales to raise money for the library. I'm sure they'd be more than willing to include an unopened DVD into their bins to raise money.

Look in the phone book for your local public library. It's amazing how many people watch dvd's when their free. I know I took chances on a lot of movies I NEVER would have rented; new-ish movies like Serenity or series box sets get waiting lists as soon as they show up. Even better: they often break the box set into 4 different dvd's to check out, reaching more people at once. It will be a constant conversion tool, with new people watching it every couple of weeks.

*edit* Wow, Kaele, I guess great minds think alike. You just type a wee bit faster!

I don't wanna start a fuzz, but "Browncoat Crew" sounds kinda lame, and totally misses the notion of MANY.
The word crew doesn't evoke the image of a lot of people in my mind.
The crew is nine. Nine is not many.
The Browncoats were thousands. Thousands is many.
Many is the point.
The Browncoats ARE an Army, for crying out loud, and they fought for a good thing. They even use the word army in animal documentaries about penguins and the like. Didn't make anyone like penguins less.
"Browncoats" is the nickname for the Independent soldiers, period. ARMY soldiers. No crew involved. The CREW is the crew. Only 2 Browncoats involved there. It's confusing (further enhanced by my bad grammar, I admit).
I skipped military service and did social work instead, and get a bad conscience every time a certain war is mentioned that even my father was too young to witness, just because I was born a German. Our "army" these days, the Bundeswehr ("Bund" means Union (of the German states), "Wehr" means "defense" - nothing aggressive in the name) only does aid work, btw, no killing involved. That's the U.S. armies specialty these days.
Anyways, I'm really not into the real wordl military, but I'm into context, and when it's about a slogan, I go with the oomph instead of the flowery PC. It's not like we're "One Goosestepping Horde of Browncoats", and the pictures of the Serenity or Jayne wearing his Jayne hat should definitely show that.

I admit that sounded harsh, but we don't have time for flowery words, and now that I have spoken my piece and vented my... discontent, I leave it to the leaders to decide and will not engage in further discussion.
I'll shake my head and roll my eyes if we're gonna be the "Browncoat Crew" or the "Greenpants Quartet" instead of the "Army of Browncoats", but I won't speak up again, and it won't affect my dedication.
I mean no disrespect, but "Crew of Browncoats" is weak sauce. Sounds like we're like 15 people or sumn. mumblegrumble

That said, I still love y'all, but had to pull a Jayne here.

One day.
One plan.
One army of Browncoats.

On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

I purchased space this morning from a reputable web host, one named Badgerswebhosting... just kidding Anyway, you can check off web space.

The domain name and name of the event still seem to be a concern so here's a recap:

serenityday.com - it seemed like a great one but the domain name was already registered.
fireflyday.com - when Browncoats were polled they voted this way by a wide majority 155 to 34 for this one. Democracy in action, a pretty clear winner. There was a Firefly Day a while ago but I don't think this will cause confusion and we may only get this day one more time... shutter to think.
serenityjune23rd.com - I also bought this domain name to try and satisfy the people who said they thought it was about Serenity, seemed reasonable. 2 different domain names pointing to the same web site. If someone types in either in a web browser it will take them to the exact same web site where they can find out about June 23rd, and Firefly, and Serenity and meet some crazy people called Browncoats

Voting polls from http://www.straightfromthehorsesmouth.co.uk/firefly/
155 Votes fireflyday.com
32 Votes reunificationday.com
22 Votes browncoatday.com
6 Votes serenityworldday.com
5 Votes Keep this one
4 Votes serenitybrowncoats.com
4 Votes fireflyevents.net

So fireflyday.com and serenityjune23rd.com - it won't please everyone but at least there's a choice, like creamy or chunky, and as your list shows there's a hell of a lot left to do!
