Instead of putting flyers up in random locations, how about we find out where the big guys in suits work?? And post the flyers all over their front doors?? *Dinky hopes they don't use helicopters to go and leave work, I wouldn't want to have to go all the Matrix 1 on them just to put some flyers on their roof*

Everybody's been doing the charity events and all since forever, and it seems as though these people don't care. I don't think they notice.

Let me explain WHY I'm focusing on doing television stations and radio stations.

The one thing that Firefly and Serenity have been known for is their success in viral marketing. Us Browncoats are experts in it. It costs the studios nothing if we're doing all their advertising for them. That's what they rely on and what got our BDM made.

I feel it's time to make us somewhat mainstream, and at a viral level, but a step up. Focus a little more on your local areas, hitting the television stations and radio stations. Internet sites and forums are a global way of looking at things, but they'll only hit the focus audience of people like us. We want to hit a NEW audience of people who have yet to see and love what we are so passionate about. Pique their interest, get them to spend their cashy money.

Personally, I feel that radio stations are an excellent target for our viral marketing. There are a few stations here in Philadelphia that are ALWAYS looking for something gimmicky, something weird, and something other than mainstream to promote. They're on the air every day, putting out hours of airtime on their talkshows, and ALWAYS looking for content that is whacky and will attract attention.

Heck, buy a few DVDs and mail them off to a radio station in a package and encourage them to do them as contest prizes for Browncoat Day! (what I've been saving my money for lately)

We are at a disadvantage here because there isn't really any formal organization of Browncoats. At least, not like there are "Starships" dedicated to meeting once a month in respect to Star Trek.

But we do have a major advantage. We are ACTIVE fans. And we are fans who speak with our cash: the one true way that studios and marketers and movie investors pay attention to.

We can and will do this. We have to!

I'm in. I agree that we should keep it simple, focusing on purchasing as many copies of the BDM as possible on that day and going to screenings. I also think that kaele is onto something by trying to get some mainstream media attention. Another easy way to do this is to write in to your local newspaper (or post on your newspaper's website). A blurb about Serenity Day, who we are, and a little bit about the 'verse would serve as an interesting public interest story.

I just want to repost the link to this webiste:

http://www.straightfromthehorsesmouth.co.uk/firefly/

This is where we all need to go to get this all started.

I like the idea of getting media attention. I've already suggested that we bombard Universal with letters during that time period. Just Universal for they alone are in control of our 'verse. And since the postal system isn't perfect, we would have to mail as many letters and postcards in the week before and after June 23.

I like the idea of postcards along with letters because they are harder to ignore. They have pictures, and people always notice something shiny.

I also think that letters and postcards publicizing this event should be sent to the media. I mean both local and national media. All we need is one lucky reporter to catch wind of this and run with it to make the national news. We just need to find that one reporter, and that takes a lot of repeated letters from mutlitple sources.

Finally, I can't stress enough to go to that website so we can stop discuss this and get organized. That is what we need right now. Organization, and a lot of DVDs sold.

Well, I would have liked an option to vote "SereniFLY", but whatever. ;)

The important is to get started, and my most sincere congrats and thanx for putting the site up and running already!

Next step: find an agreement over the banner!
If the name doesn't tell everything, then the banner has to fill the blanks!
Either show the Ship, or the Captain, or the logo of Serenity, or all.

Maybe I'd avoid those recurrent quotes we all like to use.
We don't want to look like brainwashed rabid fans. Just rabid fans, you know
Let's just show what we can create, and move ;)

I think these are all great ideas. Maybe we should have the website listed an update with all the suggestions in there so we can speard the word a little more effectively adn efficiently.

I'm for a charity screening in buffalo, NY but i feel like i'm the only browncoat in the area. Is there anyone that can help or at least just hold my hand through the process?

june 23rd isn't exactly the best timing for me either sicne that'll be the last week for my summer calculus II class but i'm willing to sacrifice some sleep and maybe an ulser or two for the contribution

Perhaps the newer fans aren't aware of this, but...

there already is a BROWNCOAT DAY.

It's previously been dedicated to December 9th, (2003) the day the "Firefly" DVD box set was released.

"Browncoat Day" is taken.

I'm all geared up for Serenity Day and ready to help in any way I can. I don't remember who designed the postcard based on mphillips artwork a while back, but I liked that. That is something I would like to see us use against Universal, along with maybe a few other designs. I'm not good at those sort of things, but I'll see what I can do.

As soon as we get that website up and running, the media has to know about this. It is vital to this operation that people know it is going on.

Oh, and I was just looking at my UK poster (i like it better than the US version) and I thought of this, hope you like it:

On June 23, we aim to misbehave.
