If I remember correctly it is War Stories. At the beginning when Wash and Zoe are arguing about taking some time together. Zoe says "I'll ask the captain." Wash rattles off in chinese "Shove all the planets in the universe up my ass" "Was I ever asking what the captain wanted." Then Mal walks in. "I wanted what?" "Nothing sir."

That's as verbatim as I can remember (my vcds are on loan) so it probably is a little off.

Sgt. X,

"Heh, I feel like an idiot. For some reason I just now got the rather obvious irony and foreshadowing there, given what happened later to Mal in "War Stories". Damn, this show sure ages well."

I never even noticed that until you mentioned it, damn. Guiness is on me if we ever meet.

The first FF ep I ever saw was the orignial aring of Ariel, which made me hate Jayne. The next show I saw was OiS which had little of Jayne, and then I saw the pilot which also had Jayne acting poorly to the crew. Then the show was cancelled. However after seeing the rest of the eps in order, Jayne turns out to be my absolute favorite character.

Okay, so My all-time favorites, despite the previous listing would have to be...

Mal: Whoa...good bible.

Wash: Whoa...good myth.

I find myself paraphrasing these a LOT.

Two of my favs from Shindig...

Mal--"...and I -never- back down from a fight."
Inara--"Yes you do. You do all the time."
Mal--"Well...yeah...but I'm not backing down from this one."

Mal--"Mercy is the mark of a great man."
(pauses, then stabs Atherton)
"Guess I'm just a good man."
(again)
"Well, I'm alright."

But really, the show is all about great lines.

as said by Simon :
'It was my birthday'

I felt really sorry for him. plus, did Joss Whedon have really screwy birthday's cos he's always punishing his characters on their birthdays.

As a person who has pretty sh*tty birthdays herself - this rings poignant

Slightly OT, but in response to LindyCat's closing statement: Not only do I agree wholeheartedly, but I also noticed that the War Against Some Terrorists, if slightly modified to the War Against Some Terrorist Elements, would be aptly named the WASTE.

On the topic of favorite lines... I'll have to give that more thought, there are so many!

Classic scene from "Objects in Space" but there are soooo many classic scenes its impossible for me to find the "best".

Jayne - Saint Jayne - Its got a ring to it!

Book - I'm just tryin to remember how many miracles you,ve performed.

Jayne - I once hit a guy in the neck from 500 yards with a bent scope, dont that count upstairs?

Book - Oh i'm sure it'll be taken into consideration.

Since the focus is on River, you have to listen closely to hear the next line (paraphrased):

Jayne: You make that sound ominous

----------

Just got a new favorite quote of the moment:

Jayne- "Don't know these folks, don't much care to"
Mal- "They're whores."
Jayne- "I'm in."
