Hi y'all!
Trash was screened in the UK for the first time last night - what a fantastic episode. One point of interest - the Captain has a tattoo on his hip. Can anyone tell me what it is? I got myself as close to the TV screen as possible (nose up against the glass
) and still couldn't make it out. And is it real?

Many people have speculated about this. Tattoo or birth mark? Or bruise? Maybe Inara spanked him and they edited that scene out.

It's a real tattoo 'cause he also had it in Starcrossed. Here's a picture of it - but I still can't figure out what it is ;-)

It's towards the bottom, the Outer Limits episode.

Hmmm... I don't know what that tattoo is, but is that a wang I see next to it?

After much concentrated (!) effort my interpretation of the tatt is that it is a symbolic representation of a line from Wordsworth-"the Child is the father of the Man."
The reclining adult figure is "giving birth" to the childlike figure with a shadowy (spirit?) linking them. This looks like a new-ish tatt which coincides with a recent (1999) book of the same name by a man belonging to a consortium of early childhood educators, which relates nicely to Nathan's academics.
Google the Wordsworth quote to find this book and other artwork on this line that evokes the image of the tatt.

I found this at http://www.scifispace.com/html/ffnews.php :
"And for those that have debating exactly what the tattoo on Fillion's right hip is, he identified it as an "Egyptian glyph" claming it translated as "Property of Gina Torres"! 12/22/03"
