hey ya all

newly registered to the site, though i've lurked for a while now :P
anyhoo...

I'n in the process of creating the central dining/lounge area Serenity (the ship not the film heh) in 3d. The plan is to have a detailed model once it's finished, but i'm doing it in my spare time so it's not going to be done this month at least.
Which brings me to my 'plea', while i can model, i'm hopeless at custom texturing (plain english - creating the pictures that will be used on the model to make it look like the real thing/close enough)
so i would love it if anyone could help by creating textures of some of the more interesting textures in the main seating area - the stenciling for example. (and full credits too)

Needless to say, when this is finished i'll release it to the world (so to speak) so everyone can use it...if they want :P

thanks..

btw, anyone know where i can find good pictures of the ceiling in that area, i'm really struggling to find clear or clearish shots of it.

later..

I'm not sure you will find a complete picture of the cealing of the area above the table because I think it had a hole in it to allow for lighting. The best thing I can suggest is to watch the section of Serenity when they are in the dining room while they are on Miranda. That has the best overall look and lighting for seeing teh room.

I would be very interested in seeing your model when it's finished. We are making a fan film that requires a lot of digital interiors and are contacting folks that have Firefly models we could use.

Hey you stole my idea

I thought about doing something like that a while back, but never bothered to do anything about it, I was going to call it Seranime. Waaay to busy with Virtual FireFly now...

Looks good, and you got Sean Kennedy on board, he's a great artist.

Seans been great. He sent us a stack of reference material early on and of course his Firefly model. We need a stack more people to ever pull this off but hey, we're Browncoats being against the odds was never an excuse not to do the right thing....

He's also supposed to be doing some animation work for Virtual Firefly, haven't heard from him in awhile though...

Now I know why .

I'll be watching FireFly Lives

He isn't working for us directly, he's just given us some technical assistance mainly with the big Serenity model. Our own guys are working on interiors and animations. We have a long way to go though, we haven't locked the pilot script yet.

I've attached a render below, just to give you all an idea at where i'm at on the model.(actually it's a tad futher than in the render below, but it's late and i need sleeeep)

I was a bit further along but after some checking of my screenshots and much viewing of firefly/serenity (oh the hardship ) i realised that the little alcove seating area was completely off size and height wise, so i've had to work on that area all tonight.

btw i know about the door frames, but until i add the walls that the doors are in, there isn't much rush with them, so they're placeholders for know.

along with the render i've added a screen shot for comparsion

That's interesting. If you can work out geometry's from photographs then I think you stand a good chance of making it work. I'm not sure about detailing and textures, even the blueprints wouldnt help you there because details of sex decoration wasn't kept --- they had to rebuild the ship for the movie from still frames of the series...

The image you are using comes from the walk through video. I suggest you look at that.
