What about CGI? Something similar to the Final Fantasy movie (the first one) would be cool.

I think I'll play the devil's advocate here for a moment and say that I don't think it would be near as good. Mainly because Firefly is such a character oriented show, and we had some excelent actors to play those characters which is what made it great. I fully believe that all the characters would do an excellent job voice acting, but saying lines properly is only half of an actors job.

The other half of the acting job would fall on the animators. While I'm sure they would do a good job, I think it would be impossible for them to pick up all the little complexities of character interaction that would be necessary in this show. I'm a big fan of animated shows and all but I think animation is better suited for more action and/or story driven shows. For a show that relies on such complex characters and their interaction. I think alot would be missing and the show just wouldn't have the same feel to it that we all came to love.

Also, I believe somewhere it was mentioned that Joss loves to incorporate little unscripted things that just kind of happened on the set. This would be kinda impossible to incorporate in a setting where the 'actors' would come in days or weeks after their animation was done to 'perform' their lines.

just some food for thought...

I actually heard this is in the works right now but they're still signing on people to do the voices. Should be really great with the voice actors being hired.

So far they've got:
• Mr. T for Jayne
• Zsa Zsa Gabor for Inara
• Pat Robertson as Book
• William Shatner as Wash
• and Bobcat Goldthwait as Mal

I've heard Christopher Walken is playing Simon, Arnold Schwartzzenegger is Zoe and Gary Coleman is doing River, but those are unconfirmed.

Because, IMHO, the Inara rendition did NOT look like Moreena Baccharin and it certainly wasn't an improvement. I would prefer something truer to the actress who played her. YMMV

I'll second that, actually :) I only have the TPB, not the individual books, but in the TPB there's a bit where each character has a full-page sketch from a different artist. Thought the one of Inara was particularly off, even though it was technically very nice (just didn't look like her.) Found it a little odd, too. I think Inara's actually one of the easier characters to draw so far, and they had done such a good job on the rest of the crew.
