I was reading some of the long list of quotes from the IMBD listing of Firefly, and I thought that it might be nice to compile a "top 10 favorite lines from Firefly" list of our own, as voted on by the FFF.net community.
What we could do is each of us post our #1 favorite line (or short dialogue) on this thread, even if someone else has already posted it - then after a week or so, someone could tally up the results. The line with the most repeats is #1 and on down.
I think this would be helpful to newcomers, since most of us agree that dialogue is what made Firefly one of the best shows on TV. I think for this reason, a top 10 list would be a nice addition to the FFF.net site - that is if the great and powerful Oz-Haken, agrees.
For the sake of newcomers, maybe add a bit of scene description before the quote if needed.
Anyone like this idea? We all know that there are literally hundreds of great lines in Firefly, but try to narrow it down to your #1 favorite.

Here is my vote (It was a close call between this and Jayne's great "chain of command" line)
[From Pilot Episode "Serenity"]
[Zoe telling Simon about the Reavers]
"If they take the ship, they'll rape us to death,
eat our flesh and sew our skins into their clothing
and if we're very very lucky, they'll do it in that order."

I know this goes without saying, but someone has to mention the "special hell" line from "Our Mrs. Reynolds":
Book: If you take sexual advantage of her, you're
going to burn in a very special level of hell.
A level they reserve for child molesters and
people who talk at the theater.

Just one?? Are you out of your mind? I guess that's between you and your mind.
Well, for me the one line, the bit of dialogue that best sums up the whole experience of being a Firefly fan... well it wasn't actually aired. But choosing from the lines that were, I'd have to go with the exchange between Simon and Mal at the end of Serenity, the last bit of Firefly to grace the screen (so far) -
Quote:
Simon: "Are you always this sentimental?"
Mal: "I had a good day."
Simon: "You had the Alliance on you, criminals and savages. Half the people on the ship have been shot or wounded, including yourself, and you're harboring known fugitives.
Mal: "We're still flying."
Simon: "That's not much."
Mal: "It's enough."
BTW, the other line I was thinking of, the one not aired, comes from the unaired version of the pilot. Zoe is explaining to Simon the significance of the name of the ship, "Serenity". She tells him about the insanity and violence that she and Mal survived at the "Battle of Serenity". The end of the discussion:
Quote:
Zoe: "Mercy, Forgiveness, Trust... those are things he left back there. What he has now is the ship, the ship and us on it."
Simon: "If that battle was so horrible, why did he name the ship after it?"
Zoe: "Once you've been in Serenity you never leave, you just learn to live there."

[War Stories]
Wash: "Mmm. Wife soup."
-----
[Jaynestown]
Jayne: "My very own riot?"
-----
[Our Mrs. Reynolds]
Saffron: "Do you know the myth of Earth that was?"
Wash: "Not so much."
Saffron: "That when she was born she had no sky and was open, inviting, and the stars would rush into her--through the skin of her--making the oceans boil with sensation. And when she could endure no more ecstasy, she puffed up her cheeks and blew out the sky."
Wash: "Whoa, good myth."
-----
[Shindig]
Malcom: "Use of a s-what?"
-----
[War Stories]
Malcom: "Wash, get her started."
-----
[Out of Gas]
Malcom: "...and start thinking about what she can be."
Zoe: "What's that, sir."
Malcom: "Freedom is one."
Zoe: "No, I mean: What's that, sir"

If I had to pick one (obviously this one is not for comedic purposes).
Book: "You don't fix faith. Faith fixes you."
I really like that quote.

I got too many favorites! Gorramit! Oh well ya can never go wrong with this one.
Now think real hard. You been bird-dogging
this township a while now. They wouldn't mind
a corpse of you. Now you can luxuriate in a nice
jail cell, but if your hand touches metal, I swear
by my pretty flowered bonnet, I will end you.
You think I look good now, wait till you see me in my new "Browncoat T-shirt"

Ooh, too many lines.
The Train Job
"Kaylee? What the hell's going on in the engine room? Were there monkeys? Some terrifying space monkeys maybe got loose?" - Mal
"Have you got time to do my hair?" - Mal
"Sir, I think you have a problem with your brain being missing." - Zoe
Bushwacked
"What could it be, we're all doomed, who's flying this thing?!?! Oh, that would be me." - Wash
Our Mrs Reynolds
"My days of taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle." - Mal
Jaynestown
"Too much hair." - River
Ariel
"There's some beautiful museums, not to mention some of the finest restaraunts in the Core." - Inara
"But not boring like she made it sound." - Wash
"Beats just sittin'" - Jayne
"It is just sitting." - Wash
And those are just the ones off the top of my head. There are so many better ones that escape my tiny little mind it's not even funny.

If I had to pick JUST ONE (please forgive if not exact):
(Discussing River)
Wash: "Psychic, though? That sounds like something out of science fiction."
Zoe: "Dear, you live on a spaceship."
