Hi, this is my first time on the forums and I was wondering if you thought Angel is worth watching. I have been watching Buffy over the last few weeks (upto season 4!) and then watched Firefly and Serenity (which are great) but Angel seems different in some way. I'm tempted to buy the first series but was wondering if it's as involving as Buffy as I like the cross over episodes but heard they end in season 3 because Buffy changed networks.

Personally I liked Angel better than buffy. It's a little darker and just as involving. I think would like it a lot. I own all 5 seasons it's addicting like all of Joss Whedon's projects.

Definitely watch. "Angel" is truly a great series in its own right; I think I became more emotionally invested in that show than I was with "Buffy." The characters, both new and old, were fascinating and their story arcs amazing.
As for the cross-overs, they were definitely tamped down in the third season after "Buffy" moved to UPN, but came back with a vengeance in the fourth season. And if you want to know what the Scoobies are up to after "Buffy" ended (and especially if you want to see more of one or two BtVS characters) you have to watch Season Five. It is my very favorite season.
So, I heartily recommend watching "Angel." As with "Buffy," the show's first season is not its best, but it's still great fun and serves as a strong foundation for greater seasons to come.

Beg to differ ;)
And yes, Angel is a must-watch. It honestly surprises me any time someone asks this - it's a Joss series, why wouldn't you want to watch it??

Well, I guess it is worth watching. A darker Buffy sounds great. My friend has series two on VHS but I thought I may aswell watch series one first so I guess I'll have to muster up some cash. Cheers everyone.

Yes, watch Buffy then Angel because his character originated on Buffy and he was on for seasons 1-3 then started his own spinoff series, but later made cameo appearances in crossovers on Buffy in seasons 4, 5, mentioned in season 6, and 7.
So watch it all in addition to our shiny big damn heroes of the Firefly/Serenity verse. Damn good writing on Joss's shows!!! They will have you laughing and crying!!

Well, I've seen 4 seasons of Buffy and Firefly and enjoyed them both so I think I should enjoy it now.

Angel is definatley worth watching! I myself prefered the last few seasons but the first were good too. Plus, being a Joss show, how could you not watch it?

I've just recently been getting into Angel myself, and I'm really addicted to it!
Though I think all the seasons are good, I think the first one starts off pretty slow. The story arcs that become common in the subsequent seasons aren't very evident in season 1 until near its conclusion. It's more "monster of the week" at the beginning, and though some of them are interesting, it just doesn't hold a candle to the story arcs, IMHO. If you're not sure it'll be your cup of tea, I suggest watching the pilot and the two-part story about Faith first.
