I don't believe we've been given any particular information regarding the organization of the units of the Independent's armies. Going by modern army organizations a battalion tends to have 300 - 600 or more troops. If you want to extend the civil war metaphor to the military organization then you don't get battalions at all but regiments of about 1100 composed of 10 companies each with about 100 troops each.
