Whatever they look like: we don´t need any more of those space-balls-starship-troopers-and-star-wars-kind-of-leni-riefenstahl-fashioned-villains. The Nazis in Indiana Jones seemed to be deeper in characterization. Shame on you, Joss.
Perhaps you aren't aware that Firefly reused the Alliance soldier outfits from Starship Troopers as a cost-saving measure. If they're too storm trooperish for your taste, well, blame Verhoeven, not Joss.

I don't disagree on any particular point.

Spoilers Ahead if one has not seen Buffy, Angel, or Firefly or Serenity yet.........go no further and pick up those DVD's now!!
We don't need any more of our shiny big damn heroes dying on any of Joss's shows. Can't count Buffy, Spike or Angel cause they all came back. I miss each and every one of them: Buffy: Jenny, Joyce, Tara, Anya. Angel: Doyle, Cordelia, Fred, Wesley, Darla, Lindsey, Lilah
Firefly/Serenity: Book & Wash
Special Mention: No more eye gouging, Xander deserves both his eyes. That was disturbing to watch.
No more gorram potential slayers.
No more gorram space pirates trying to take Serenity and trying to kill our crew.
I'm a leaf on the wind....Watch how I soar.
Wash: Captain, don't you know kissin' girls makes ya sleepy? Mal: Sometimes I just can't help myself.

Didn´t know that, DC. Shame On You, Paul!
But it´s not only about the fashion-side of things. The movie “Starship troopers” (as far as I remember) was a satire about american-style action movies and it also dealt with fashist symbols and the glorification of militarism. I believe that the movie was a satire about the book, written by the former graduate of the Naval Academy, Robert A. Heinlein. That´s why the movie Starship Troopers is such a masterpiece for me. The book might be on the reading list of the U.S. Army as well and although it won the Hugo award back in 1960 there´d always been a controversy about the novel being too simplistic and militaristic and the characters just being mouthpieces for the political believes of Heinlein.

So, the Problem is, that in Starship Troopers you have flat and extremely good looking Beverly Hills 90210-Topmodels (which is intended by P. Verhoeven) and not complex characters like Mal, Kaylee or Wash in Firefly / Serenity. I understand, that Firefly is also a satire somehow. I love the series. But I think, the better the nasties, the bigger your chances to characterize those persons, who are really important. I think the nasties in Firefly lacked some credibility. I think that Joss might have had some similar thoughts, because he introduced this great alliance agent (The Operative) in the movie, who is a real big threat to the crew and also a very complex character with his own thoughts and believes.
So. Please forgive my harsh critique. It´s only a very small one and a sign for my overall love of the show. I also apologize for my (school-)English.
A Dragonbreth Gilthorpial!!
