Everyone else seems to have way more inside info than I,
but I thought/hoped we were going to get more Firefly novels and comics sometime...maybe? Maybe not?

Last I'd heard, it seemed that Joss was planning on working on more comics, hopefully with a bit of a longer run than the previous three of so issues. (Those were great, but still felt a little bit... rush/ condensed I thought.) But looking around, I can't remember where I came upon that bit, so maybe it's still an unconfirmed rumor...
Again with the novels... can't remember where I originally came across the info myself, but I seem to remember hearing mention that at the very least there were a few writers that were putting together some treatments for possible novels.
Sorry I couldn't be more help. (Thought I knew more than I apparently did... tried to find some links to the hard facts, and couldn't come up with any all of a sudden... :)

It has been confirmed that there WILL be more comics from Dark Horse, but the specific dates have not been confirmed as of yet. It has been said that Joss Whedon and Brett Matthews (he wrote "Heart of Gold" and co-wrote the last comic series) will be writing an unspecified amount of comics, and will be set in the "Firefly" continuation; in other words, they won't continue the story after "Serenity".
There has been word on at least two more Firefly/Serenity novels in the future, but all details are very sketchy at best. Joss Whedon has said in so many words that they will probably not be "Firefly/Serenity" canon.

Also, a novel called Mirror Image (Serenity} is listed on Amazon.com. The author? Keith R.A. DeCandido, the man who wrote the Serenity novelization. The release date is July 1, 2009.
I adore the Serenity universe, but DeCandido's writing was unbearable.
We'll see...

The listing for Mirror Image is a placeholder for a new Serenity novel, but we're still waiting for final word from Joss on what direction the novels might take. About a dozen authors (including me) have submitted proposals for the two novels, but we've been in a holding pattern.
Joss himself told me at the Flanvention last weekend that he needs to see what the DVD sales are like, and that will have an impact on what the future of the franchise is generally -- including the novels.
So there will be two more Serenity novels -- it was part of the contract for the novelization -- {snip}

DeCandido has come on the fan sites and has said that that isn't a book he is writing and that he doesn't know why Amazon.com has it listed.

Anyways, Joss Whedon has confirmed in interviews that there will be another comic series probably somwhere around the summer of 2006 by Dark Horse.
I hadn't heard though that Dark Horse has confirmed it. So it looks like to me that it is just a matter of writing it and drawing it until we see it.
One other thing you have to remember is that Whedon is notorious for missing his comic deadlines. With Astonishing X-Men the last issue was over a month late on when it was suppose to come out.
