Hi all! Just checking in from China to tell Allhailjosswhedon not to worry---you're not the only one from Asia. I think there are lots, but they're just quiet!
I didn't know there were so many from the Frozen North of Europe, like Scotland and Scandinavia! Anybody from Russia?

When I read the reviews of Serenity I was very excited. Everybody thought the movie was awesome!
So, since the movie was not available here we purchased it in the UK.
I especially looked forward to the action scenes with Summer. And they were great!!
I've always been a fan of troubled heroines...
And the humour was splendid, Mal was his great self (I'm female so...
), and I loved the fact that the action scenes were not all flashy and moving! (Like for example the first battle scene in 'Gladiator' which made me very nauseous!)
It's like Davye said, it's nice to be surprised! A gem in the rough... I liked that description.

There is translation, and there is Translation.
A plain hack job renders the basic meaning of the lines (one hopes), but real translation brings in all the nuances, and Whedonspeak in SereniFly is often far from standard English. Not only does JW use his bleep-avoiding Mandarin, and "gorram" etc. but he also uses archaic words and constructions, and there is abundant slang.

It took me a while but here's my answer. As I said before, in the translation they don't consider the mandarin at all so everything is converted into plain italian and so is a lot of typical Joss-speak: this way lot of the poetry is lost but I have to say they didn't do a bad job all things considered... I've heard a lot worse.
I have no idea about the robbery because they are up to Jaynestown and I've only seen the BDM in english. I'll let you know.
