I would have thought that was fairly common practice for investigational journalism though? If you get a document that says "politician X did Y" and there is no way to authenticate it's authenticity what do you do? You try to confirm at least what facts you can via other sources but in the end at some point you either drop the story, in which case you MAY have hidden something the public has a right to know, or publish and risk smearing an innocent man.

Tough call. What I think is increasingly happening is that with so many TV news outlets the urge to get the "scoop" on air before the opposition seriously cuts into the verification and consideration time.

Cynthia McKinney is a Congresswoman, not a Senator. There are 435 members of Congress. There are 100 Senators.

Never before in the history of the capitol police has ANY member of House OR the Senate struck an officer , uniformed or plain clothes. Ms McKinney is the 1st to do so.

Ms McKinney has a history of crying racism and making unsubstantiated claims of harrassment.
