I think the one thing we all have in common here is a mutual love for the 'verse. May not get along all the time, but there's always that :) Anyways, hope you feel as welcomed here as I always have.
Still a relative noob myself, but I've been shooting my own mouth off around here to notice quite a few waves of fresh recruits. We just seem to keep showing up, and every time it looks like it may start to level out a bit- here comes a fresh batch of shiny new people! ;p
Keep the faith, spread the word, and don't forget: we hold the line until Mal gets back and if he takes too long, or something happens to him... we take the ship and come rescue him :)

Hey there *Waves*
I too have the Series and the Film, and in those moments when I need just that little bit more, I come here. It is a favourable and amiable place. A 'verse unto itself you might say. The people are warm and fuzzy and there's a bundle of good humoured individuals willing to talk all things Firefly/Serenity and a great deal more.
Hope your stay is long and pleasant.
