Moriarity over at Ain't It Cool News included a little blurb on Firefly in his Fall preview reviews.
Here is what he had to say about Firefly:
Quote:
Fox sent out a "presentation" today to the affiliates. It's 40 minutes of footage, but NOT a pilot. In all actuality it appears to be the long mentioned pilot cut down to 40 minutes. God knows what got cut, but what's left is pretty cool. Some interesting characters. What seemed missing was the Whedon trademark humor, at least until the tail end, when we got to see the characters under pressure and stressed to the max, which is another Whedon staple. All things aside, I'm stoked to see this space western's fresh skew, taking on the side of the less-than-rightous. Love the effects. Love the sets.
I wish I could see that presentation.

This is the same stuff that I talked about in the Episode Discussion section.
He obviously saw the same footage that was sent down to all FOX stations, if you want my take on it go to the Episode Discussion thread and check it out.
Out........................

One thing about the buzz from this first ep. It kind of cements my prognosis for Firefly. Which started with this pro-Whedon rant on Slashdot:

And went up and down as I heard good and bad news. Well, I still have concerns. I'm sure there will be holes in the logic and bits of bad science, which I shall nitpick ad nauseum. (That's part of the fun!) But the buzz about the first ep just puts me back where I started: Firefly is going to be very very good. And it will be successful -- there just isn't that much competition for really imaginative drama.
And what really makes me happy is that it will change the way they do SF on TV and in the movies. People will realize that the genre is a vehicle for real story telling, not just an excuse to blow things up.
I JUST WISH IT WOULD START ALREADY!!!
