after watching the episodes over and over....and while i am very fond of all of them... i keep coming back to Out Of Gas....

it's a thing of beauty - every time i watch it, i can feel the love this crew has for one another - and Jayne shooting his (ex)partner in the leg is a hoot

Out Of Gas is without a doubt the best episode. They are all good, and I'd only consider a couple to be of slightly lesser quality. But Out Of Gas is just so beautifully done, it's perfect.

My vote for best is also Out of Gas. All of them are excellent but this has that extra something. It is also cool to see how Mal gets Serenity and how he finds his crew. Good origin stuff that is vital in my opinion.

The best episode ever?? That's easy, it's the one that Joss hasn't done yet. Well just kidding. My actual point is that I'm sure there would be even better episodes to come if someone would give him the chance to do the show again. Anyways as of now, I'd have to say Out of Gas is my favorite.

Although the Message is a close second. Not sure why. I think it has a lot to do with the ending and Mal being torn apart by not only the loss of the way, but what is happening to those who survived on his side. Then there's the fact that Tracey was ready to shoot someone (infact he shot Wash ), but it really hurt Mal and I think I know how he feels in a sense. That looks on his face at the very end give me chills it's so good.

In response to the Best vs. Favorite debate on which episode I prefer, the answer is easy. I LOVE the pilot, Serenity. I LOVE watching the original Mal, the nasty Mal, the bitter Mal confront Jayne at the dinner table. I love watching them get screwed by Badger. I love being suspicious of Simon, and completely ignore the Alliance Agent. I love being suprised at how easily Book beats the crapola out of him. I love how freaked out Jayne gets by the reavers. I love how Wash gets irritated by Mal and Zoe's relationship (His thumbs up after he tells Zoe to call Mal sir because he likes it is, I think, one of the funniest Wash moments in the whole show). I love the space sequence at the beginning and the super detailed reaver escape at the end. I love Simon's face when Mal tells him Kaylee's dead. I simply love it all. By far it is the best, and alsoo my favorite episode. And, let's not forget that it's two hours long. Double your fun....

My vote goes for outta Gas as well!

Hmmmm, funny how soo many browncoats are picking the same ep. Wonder if it has anything at all to do with the fact that we alot of think alike, else we wouldn't all BE browncoats here on the board, talking firefly.

WHEN they broadcast the next NEW episode then I am sue IT will be my fave!!

Out of gas is "the best" of a great series.

I like the fact that Mal refuses to leave his ship but still wants to care for everyone and give them every fighting chance.

I like the fact that they all respond in different ways, Zoe makes them come back, Inara does not want to leave Mal.

Also Shindig is a personal favorite as we see that things are getting intersting between Inara and Mal.
